M is not your stack divided by the BB, it's your stack divided by the total starting pot, including antes.  A "good" M is one over 20.  A "decent" M is one over 10.  A "bad" M is one between 5 and 10.  And a "very very bad" M is one less than 5.  When you're M is less than about 10 you literally want to get your exact M at the start of every single hand.  When it gets less than 5, any bet you make preflop will be all in, no limping and no raising less than all in.  When it gets to about 3 and it's folded to you in late position, you should go all in with any hand in the top 50% or so.  So that includes hands like 10 9 or Jack 8.  You should never let your M get below like 2.5 by gettin blinded out.  Once it gets this low you have almost no fold equity, other players will call you with any two cards because of their pot odds.
