when becoming a full time poker?

imagine you have several months in a row having a positive roi playing poker, and you realize that you are making more money than in your regular job

do you think it will be logical to consider to dedicate more time to play poker including taking a rest of your job for a six months period for example and have a bigger playing poker?

or you consider is just a luck and prefer not to risk so much in just one income source?

maybe if you are doing not so well you can go back to the start,

Earn poker for a living is difficult. Just make poker is much easier than when you have to withdraw the N-th sum of life. So need have to work and try to evolve in parallel in poker.

you can be a winning player or just being in a good run. dont quit your job, because you will be facing lots of downswings and if you dont have other source of money you will get broke. You will need a lot of back up savings and being a long term winning player ( 5 years at least IMO) to even consider being a professional poker player.

Don't quit your job but maybe cut back and work part time and see if you are still winning $$$

You should def keep your job. When you start playing poker for a living it starts to become tedious after awhile, just like anything else. At least now you have a hobby that actually pays you for your time, plus a good income from work.

In the alternative, if you dont like your job, it may be the thing to do, it depends.

You have a job that would still be there is you quit for 6 months? Lucky you. I'd say, don't quit till you are earning as much playing poker as you make on the job, be sure to factor in health care and retirement perks. (Social security is a retirement perk.)

If it's a little BS job you're not taking much of a chance if you quit the job, and go for it. On the other hand if it's a good job, you would be taking a big chance, don't go for it.

I can relate to your story. Once upon a time several years ago I was playing the 5/10 Limit regularly, and I was going several times a week. Also playing in the 1/2 NL on the weekends in a backroom b&m game. I did some math and it turned out the cost of travel was not very significant, and I was making much more per hour than when my "little job" at the time. I quit my job and ran well for a few more months. I had the money that I needed to pay the bills and buy some things for me...Then one day I couldn't win anymore. I would flop a trips, and the other guy would call my 750 all in and he would river the gut shot str8. a week later I even lost the same gut shot straight, this time for over a $2000 pot to the same guy as the week before........This went on for me for 3 MONTHS ....THE MORAL of the story is: if get a job at mcDonalds expect to be making some fries and hamburgers....IF POKER is your job, expect to lose when the downswings come. That's part of the life of a pro poker player THATS why they are called downswings.
Mathematically, you can afford to play poker for a living once you have 6 months of ALLLL your expenses paid for in SAVINGS. THIS CANNOT INCLUDE YOUR bankroll: You must also develop and successfully utilize a bankroll management strategy.
If you are prepared to meet certain criterion and have a solid business plan of how you will prevent yourself from going broke while you are unable to avoid negative variance, while also meeting all of your financial obligations...by all means, I highly recommend you pursue this dream immediately. Otherwise, perhaps reevaluate your plan, and decide not IF you should, but HOW YOU WILL. To become a full time player need hard work and long time.The question is ,we have to know whether we are the future winner of poker before we quit our job.For me,I have to be careful.

Keep your job and player poker as a serious hobby. You will get burned out playing poker for a living.
