Suddenly the inner workings of the game and players were laid bare. Everyone could now grasp the strategies involved whereas before many who  watched televised poker were left in the dark unless they already had a thorough grasp of the game. To most it seemed an odd version of gambling rather than a game where skill was employed. Once hole cards were shown it was apparent skill and strategy were involved even if poker inevitably remained something of a game of chance.
