I am sure my Wife would be a formidable player as well, but she has no interest in playing Poker. Years ago I taught her how to play Cribbage and although she still has no idea how to calculate the points she holds in her hand, she recognizes patterns  in the cards which give her a better chance of making more points, and she now beats me at my own game.
Darts was another game I tried to teach her and although I can get 3 darts grouped together around the treble 20 she hits the board anywhere and constantly hits the treble every time, it got so embarrassing when I played against her I quit playing.
So actually I am glad she doesn't play Poker :)
Women Poker players can sometimes be under estimated as opponents because there are fewer Female players and being a Gentleman when it comes to the fairer sex, we tend to be slightly less aggressive towards them, I once came up against a Female player, heads up on the Final table and although I had a massive chip-stack advantage, she was beginning to beat me, until I realised where I was going wrong and managed to re-group and take her down, the secret to this encounter was to imagine her as a man and treat her as I would if she was a Male opponent.
