Women's etiquette at the table

I think it would be somewhat awkward having a wsop bracelet won by a male with the Title of "2010 Women's $1,000 Event Champion" engraved on it.

I think yhis is a huge joke. come on your play for an wsop brestlet and you just get up to pee i mean come on girls your in it to win it

Apparently they're not in it to win it.

If I were a woman in the event at any other table I would be pissed off, and so would everyone who is saying "oh what a nice thing to do" type stuff. Don't kid yourself.

Why make such a big deal over such a stupid matter? If they wish to go together fine. I for one would have stayed and taken the blinds. To each there own.

I'm happy to see another dude who thinks this way about the women's event. So ridiculous to hear guys bitching about "its not fair". Not even thinking about all of the ways they have probably benefited from being a male in our society already. Yeah you and I get some special treatments on an everyday basis because we've got one swingin between our legs. Let the women have their own event and let them enjoy it without your whining.

Be aware that you run the risk of getting banned from the WSOP for a year or more and maybe getting 86'd from the Rio as a whole. Men playing in women's only events is kinda like card counting in blackjack: while it's not technically illegal the casino can still kick your douchebag butt out for doing it*.

As for the synchronised bathroom breaks thing... meh, if the whole table was happy and wanted to do it then I don't see any problem. There's a borderline problem since nobody's paying any blinds while they're away but I don't really thing anyone gained much tournament-wise. They all stopped paying blinds for a few minutes but they also stopped accumulating chips and there'll be the same amount on the table when they return as when they left. I can see this being a problem if they all elected to leave the table and didn't come back for, say, the rest of the level or something and intentionally missed having to pay a load of blinds while other tables kept playing and getting blinded out. But if it was five minutes I don't think it's a big deal.

One other thought, for those complaining about this: Justin Bonomo proudly tells a story about a hand he once had against Men the Master. A friend of Justin's is at the table and badly needs to go to the bathroom. Men the Master goes all in preflop, Bonomo finds himself holding two aces but instead of calling he tanks, telling his friend to go to the bathroom because he'll need a few moments to think. Bonomo waits for his friend to get back before calling... and IIRC karma hit about then because Men sucked out and won the pot.

I thought that was hilarous when I read it the first time and really that's a lot worse than an entire table declaring a synchronised bathroom break. If you can laugh at that then you're applying double standards pretty badly.

* I'm not calling card counters douchebags, BTW - just guys who play in women's events.

Hearing they all got up from the table at the same time in order to save one of them from losing blinds.... I think that's really cool.

I :heart: you both! While I personally prefer playing tournaments with men because unlike other sports the playing field is level, I fully support my sisters who feel more comfortable in an all woman poker event. Though there have always been women brave enough to sit down and play with men (Poker Alice in the wild, wild, west comes to mind), that still isn't globally the case.

We may have come a long way, baby, but we still have a long way to go toward gender equality as Stix so wisely says. After all, the womens' event was initiated to keep the wives and girlfriends occupied while their men were playing poker for hours and some men to this day think that's where the gals belong. To this day, some men don't feel that women should be playing poker at all...ask me how I know .

As for the mass exodus to the potty, I think that's not only hilarious but positively ingenious!

Forget that it's a ladies even, that's irrelevant. The fact that this happened at all, in any event, is absurd.

Being a woman, I myself even find this story somewhat hard to believe! Not that I don't believe it, but I've met other women at the poker table that would never agree to do this...lol. I don't think gender plays a role in proper etiquette at all, as I've met many foul acting men, and although I can't say as equally as many foul acting women since there isn't as many women in the field, I have met a few...Attitude has nothing to do with what gender you are, but what type of individual you are.

Also...As for women's events, I've read it's illegal for a casino to disallow anyone into an event based on gender, or whatever other reasons they could use to discriminate against. Although, I'm not sure if that's in every state or not. But I did show up at a casino one day to play in their daily tournament, and they turned me away due to the fact that I wasn't old enough. Grr...Mature audiences only! Who thought of such a thing!

This really isn't a big deal, either the ladies only or the bathroom. Since men can join it, there is nothing but positives imo about advertising in an effort to get more women involved in poker. And all the ladies individually made the choice to go and not steal chips. It's their choice on how to play.

What does being able to hold your bladder have to do with being a good poker player?

More power to the ladies. They civilize (well, almost) everything and make life interesting. Plus they are a lot nicer to look at than some poker zombie wearing a ball cap and three days of stubble.

While this is true, you've got to be aware that there's huge potential for angle shooting in something like this if it's abused.

I gather they all left at once, did what they needed to and then came back to the table and the effect on the tournament was minimal. But imagine if they all did the same thing on or approaching the bubble, and instead of coming straight back they were gone for half an hour or more. Suddenly there's an entire table of players who aren't losing any chips, aren't getting blinded down and aren't getting knocked out. Meanwhile, all the other tables are still playing, risking elimination and knocking people out. The players who left their table en masse could give themselves a free ride to the money bubble or even past it if hand for hand wasn't being used.

The way the story in the OP it doesn't sound like this was done as an angle shoot, but it very easily could have turned out that way.

I have seen a full table of smokers get up in unison and go for a quick smoke break before. I would'nt have an issue with that unless it was at a critical stage of the tournament. (Bubble or final table bubble)

Good Point.

I think it's likely that a majority of women will behave differently at a table filled with only women than they will at a table mixed with men. It's why a women's only event would be attractive for me to give a go...just for variety. I've only played at mixed tables so I don't know whether I'd enjoy it or not but this story is an example of what might make it a pleasure to try. A sort of underlying acceptance that this behavior is no problem is one that I'd never expect from playing with men.

However, based on some of the open-minded men's responses on this post, I could very well be playing with a group of men who would consider all the women getting up to go to the ladies room as a good opportunity for them to all get up and go to the men's.

I think I'd get a kick out of playing with a group of women just for the pleasure of comradery's sake. All in all, though...I would never want to stop playing with men.

It's a nice gesture, but it is unfair advantage to the rest of the people in the tournament. For christ's sake they only a few blinds, unless the blinds level is quite high which would be even more unfair.

I wonder what the opinions were of the rest of the women playing in the tournament, assuming they are aware of it happening.

They(all of the tables in the room) probably saw it and decided to all just fold around to the BB every time until that table got back, to be fair and not change the chip stacks while the ladies were gone...

When you put it this way, I can see how this could be upsetting, if that were the situation. It would probably piss me off, men or women doing it.

I love it very cool gesture from the other ladies I do see some of the points made by others on the advantages .

Some of the hubby's and mine best times are on the rare occassions that we hit the poker tables. It's fun to see who comes out on top (oh gawd, I know JD or SP will see this...doesn't matter what I say, it's a double entendre).
