I was curious as to where all the dealers come from during the world series of poker? Do they come in from compeating casinos? If so,do those casinos shut down their poker rooms during the event? Thank you.

I played with a one of the guys who was a dealer at the Main Event final table in 2005. He said that he sat down with the ESPN producers and dealt the hole cards out perfectly without looking at the seats. He deals at a casino in Florida and flew out to Vegas for the Main Event.

Without looking at the seats? Like... with his eyes closed or something? Not quite sure what that proves, but it's a good trick I guess.

presumably this means that he could throw the cards exactly where the players would be seated without having to take the time to look + aim

Probably just getting it out of his system - he's not allowed to tip dealers in Australia or Europe :p

I thought about applying for last year's wsop, but never did it. Probably dangerous to go to vegas for a month and a half, I'd probably take my paychecks straight to the Bellagio $1K tournaments...

AG, do you have any idea how much the dealers would be making in tips? Read the toke sheet and it made absolutely zero sense to me.

The base rate of pay kinda surprised me though - six bucks an hour?!? I make AUD$35 an hour (call it $30 US - we don't get tips) just working corporate functions and bar nights over here, just wondering if the tips would bring it up to anything resembling that kind of rate...

My understanding is that it gets up to a sufficient level, although somewhat less than the dealers want to make of course.

$30 is pretty good for the work you are doing, I was getting about $25 for a similar situation.

Fair enough - I knew I was onto a pretty good thing, I just figured the dealers at the biggest tournament in the world would be taking home a little more!

Well, dealing in my local poker room would probably work out to about $30/hr, but my understanding is that the wsop is payed by the number of "downs" you actually deal. The toke rate sheet you looked at is simply telling you what rate they are going to tax you on, not the actual earn rate.

Exactly the reason I do not allow my wife to work in retail clothing, jewelry, or any craft/hobby store.

I talked to a dealer a while back and if it's still the same, you contact Harrah's thru their WSOP website or Harrah's main site and they can tell you for sure. There were some set requirements and I'm sure you also have to get the Nevada Gaming Employee card. Fingerprints, background check, etc.

GL if you do. I would love to do it but the hands don't work that well anymore. When the body was ready the time said 'forget it'. Now that I have the time, the body says 'ha-ha-ha'. ...

I see y'all talking about tips, how do you tip a dealer in a tourney? Real cash? Tourney chips would be wourthless to a dealer... right?
