Hell no. I don't know what I would do with my time, I might have to start watching TV again.

For some Countries gambling is Banned Like Japan where your Slot machines have been replaced with Bagatelle Machines, and they buy a bucket of Balls to play them and can only win Balls Which have no cash value, also there are other machines that pay out Tickets which can only be used for Prizes. so your only incentive is to win Toys etc.
But Gambling is still available to those who want to risk money, and it is rum by the Japanese Mafia. So is very Illegal and can be Dangerous. Much Like When the USA introduced a Ban on Drinking Alcohol, You were allowed to Brew your own Wine and Beer at home for personal consumption but They did prosecute people if they did it on an Industrial scale to supply other people. So the Criminals took over the supply of Spirits during the Prohibition and it became very profitable for them to sell Bathtub Gin etc but where you have profit you had Greed! And a lot of Violence.
Amsterdam Had a similar problem with Drugs and Prostitution and the Red Light district in Amsterdam was a very dangerous place to visit before they Legalised Weed and Prostitutes. Now it is a Popular Tourist attraction,
Banning something does not stop it all together, and only sends it underground, to be run by the Criminals and thugs that would increase Violence between Rival gangs etc, So it is better to monitor it, Take away the Criminal element and Then you can control it! Making it safe for everyone.
If Poker is banned in your own Country, Do you think that it will disappear completely, I very much doubt it, as the Criminals will always find a way to give players what they want, at a Price, Poker was and still is Banned in many States in the USA but there are ways and means of getting your poker "Fix" in dingey Backrooms and Cellars if you cannot get to places like Vegas and Atlanta etc.
So banning something is not going to stop it, You just Criminalise it and send it out of sight! But it will always be there!

There's no reason to ban the game. Regulate it, yes.. But, apart from that, let the people play.

I don't have to defend the game. The game has done nothing wrong. PEOPLE are the problem and always have been, imo.
It all comes down to the decisions we make. If you don't like the taste of licorice, then don't eat it. If you don't like the cold and wind, put on a jacket or stay inside. If you don't like the music of Taylor Swift, then don't listen to her. It's that simple.
Poker, like a lot of activities these days, is getting a political sideswipe from everyone w/a so-called "moral microscope". If someone goes bust or gets cheated by some greedy goobernaut some Karen wannabe starts pointing the finger and spewing "WITCH!". Next thing you know poker is some kind of moral demon, there to ravage your family and bank account. Please...
Pretty soon it'll be on the back of a bus-stop bench: "Is internet poker ruining your life?" Stop me if this sounds familiar.

NO, poker does not need to be banned because IMO it's a game/ sport and like other games/ sports a few people will play it more and put more money/ emotions etc. into it- nothing wrong about it... addiction is a thing though and some people need help but this is present in pretty much all areas of life and for sure we can't 'ban everything'...

Why would any of us here want that? The UK has brought in regulations for safer gambling and responsible gambling and put more on the sites and casinos to make sure players are within their means and offer support and signposts to help if things are out of hand. Such as deposit limits; faster withdrawal (to prevent re gambling winnings) and visible adverts highlighting places to get help.

I was in a casino with my hub who went out of a live game early but I was still in so he decided to hit the bar and got a bit tipsy and the casino actually stepped in and stopped him playing roulette, refused to serve more alcohol and asked him to have a coffee. And honestly he wasn’t making a show of himself or losing loads we didn’t take much money with us. But I was surprised to see them stepping in and thought it was rather good to see. Meant he came to annoy me but good nonetheless.

We are adults let us do what we want to do - yes it’s addictive but what isn’t? Alcohol is the most destructive drug in the world more damaging to the body than any other drug. You can DIE detoxing off alcohol, you don’t die detoxing off heroin yet that’s legal. It’s not the only game people bet on, so defiantly no, if anything the other way round !

No, I would like it legal, regulated, and taxed.

Regulation would eliminate a lot of the shady operators.

A great deal of tax revenue would be generated.

We would see better software and have more secure environments to play.

Hopefully. it would cause another poker boom.

It seems to me that you subconsciously would like this.
I often see you at the table, and you almost always, on the very first hand, play all-in with hands like or or and sometimes it can be or . Of course, it's up to you to decide how to play, but if you rely only on luck, then perhaps the best option for you would be, for example, a lottery (unless, of course, it is prohibited in your country).
