Only in a public place, KD, like a club or casino.

If you play with people you don`t know at their place with their cards, you`re not going to know if the game is straight. Even if it is, how are you going to get out in one piece if you win big ?

Yeah, thats similiar to what Im thinking. Ok if they win, or you/they break even, but say you took them for a grand. Do they knock on their floor as a signal, and their whole family come rushing in and attack you?
This site is worrying? I'm sure there's also a dating/casual sex thing going on there as well?

I'd also only meet/play in a public card room. Really, though, what's the point? Poker is kind of a solitary pursuit, aside from the social aspect, and you'll be at a table with eight or nine other people anyway. No difference whether they're strangers you found beforehand or strangers you found when you arrived. I suppose it could be a good way to make friends with similar interests, if that's what you're looking for.

Meeting up with someone you already "know" from a message board is different, though. I met up with a "board friend" for poker last time I was in Las Vegas. There's also a group of us in my area from a (non-poker-related) message board that get together pretty regularly for drinks and camaraderie.

I have used it

i met a guy at a YMCA poker game... they use meetup.com... now i go there attempting once a week... but the hostess has been having family problems... otherwise yeah, a whole bunch of us in hawaii use it.
