I find the best way to play is to use position. Make sure you sit to the left of the loose and right of the tight players. This makes all the difference. If you are to the left of a maniac, you can slow play him down and let him bet without having to check and give a free card. Also, from late position, you can get your monsters really paid off. I find most people expect a Steal or you to try to take the pot from late position with awfull hands. You get a lot more loose calls and you get the earlier people who limped into the pot to call 'with a beg me kinda bet' because they feel they are partially invested.

I play mostly MTTs, so I can't usually choose where I sit at the table.

Position is one of the most important things to think about. The strength of hands and bets changes drastically depending on what position they are played from. Most beginners don't take position into consideration as much as they should.

The important thing is to realize your position and use it. I play mtts though and cant really do that. Just hope to learn more about my opponents and then use that.

Let's be 100% clear here, we are not talking about whether you are under the gun, mid position, cut-off or button here. OP is talking about picking your seat at a (cash game) table wisely, so that you are in the optimum position at the table in relation to people with certain styles of playing.

position is huge

i agree playing position is huge,not only in the players,but in the cards you choose to play...i,ve folded many hands in early position that i would have played in late position.

I agree 100%.
We have a game every friday night at a friends house and the really tight and loose player usually always sit in the place each week. Well this week I got there early enough to get the chair between them and I cleaned up. Until I got so buzzed I couldn't concentrate anymore, then I quit. LOL
