No I didn't worry about playing for money the first time because I had started with play chips then I grabbed a book and actually learned the games while at the play chip tables so I had a very sound understanding of the games I played. Anyway, whether it was Holdem, Omaha, the Hi/Lo games or anything. I always studied a book and knew the basics.  For tournaments, I'd watch and take notes on people(especially the on the regulars) before I even attempted an entry whether online or live.  And when I tried a cash game online for the first time I had a sound  background, scoped out the table by how many hands folks were playing  and how they played.

I'm always thinking about "If I can't spot the fish then I'm the fish" so I'm looking for knowledge so I can spot people's mistakes. Then I used freerolls to build my bankroll and played the micro limits when it was always house money.  After playing those folks online then I had the confidence to play bigger stakes live.

Point is, taking things slowly with some preparation can go a long way in getting you ready for anything at the poker tables and probably in life.
