Hey everyone, how’s it going?
I’m new here on the forum and also just starting out with online poker. I’ve been playing some play-money games and freerolls to get a better feel for how the game works. I’m trying to learn the basics about position, ranges, and bankroll management, but I still struggle a lot with knowing when to fold a hand or try a bluff.

For those of you with more experience: what were the most important things you learned when you were starting out? Is it better to focus more on studying theory, playing a lot to gain experience, or trying to balance both?

Thanks in advance for any tips you can share!

As beginner it's easy:
1. ALWAYS FOLD IF YOU GET A LOT PRESSURE FROM YOUR OPPONENT(S) with hands that you don't feel confident getting all in with (e.g. 1 pair hands even AA). Google: Baluga Theorem
2. DON'T BLUFF EVER, you just don't need to in games where you are getting paid too often with value hands.

These 2 rules will take you a long way, build a bank roll.

WAY DOWN the line look at mixing in a few small bluffs, notice spots where you see others bluffing, decide if it is a good spot to bluff and incorporate it into your game or note them up as making bad bluffs and you can start making more calls.

Study theory in chunks then try and actively apply ideas you have learned to your game, but don't get too ahead of yourself. Apply rules 1 and 2 above until you are profitable, then everything else after that is just polishing your game.

Never play scared money . Try to learn the basic rules and study a little st least the game before you decide to play seriously , learn shove fold decisions . Learn good bankroll management . Start from very low buy ins , advance to higher levels only if you are a winner at lower stakes .

MTTs. Hasty decisions on cash tables may become costly if you don't know what you are doing.

If you are just starting out you shouldn’t be bluffing at all, you just don’t know what your doing yet to be pulling off bluffs, I mean you might get away with it here and there but without study and experience you won’t know what spots are best for bluffing.
Study anything and everything you can and that you have time for, then take what you are learning to the tables. While you are playing take notes of different situations you are in that you have questions about and then off the table study those spots. Study is an on going process if you want to get really good at poker. Good luck and have fun!

Just play freerolls for at least 3 months (hundreds of hands) until you learn something.Don't bluff because it's a technique you'll learn along the way! Play only premium hands in early positions and only in late positions middle hands (small pairs, suit connectors, etc), depending on Call/Bet you decide whether to call or Raise!
