Hello, My name is Gerry and I'm kind of new to poker. In a tournament, which cards should I go all in with, if any?

Go all-in preflop with low stack, or really good hands: QQ, KK, AA

It depends on how long the current tournament is taking place, in the first 20 minutes it is OK to even go all-in with AJ + but as you advance you will realize that the best hand would be AK or AA for an All-in.

Maybe in freeroll for 9 tickets on Pokerstars. Normally it should be the opposite.
In late game, lower stack, bigger range. Big stack = tight play. AK is not such a good hand it has lower chance for win vs. 22.

depends how many bb you have if you have 150bb then its probably not a good idea to shove ak but if you have 10bb then shoving ak is standard play, just an example

There should be a reason behind every poker play , if you are just clicking buttons then you need to look deeper into why you do a play or plays you need to change.

Well said already. Avoid go all in pre flop in early stages.I don't see any rational reason to cost you your tournament life early on in a stupid flip. Go all in if you have the nuts post flop! [

Deeper in a MTT or in a STG there are standard plays which you have to learn and apply in your game. Plays which are unexploitable like shoves and reshoves. Learning these would be a great beginning of taking the poker game more seriously. Have fun

What is the point of going all in pre flop? There may be times when your back is to the wall and an occasion arises, with only a few player in the pot, and you think the time is ripe to go for it. If you have such a great hand why drive other players out of the pot? Wait for the flop and only then decide whether or not to risk your tournament life.

I like the idea of making my determination based on the number of blinds that I have but worry that I mess things up by being impulsive. Let's see what happens. Thanks for all of your input.

All-in preflop is to scare the opponents in late stage of the tournament and force them fold. Best cards are QQ, KK and AA, if you limp or make small rise, someone can check you with 22 or something like JT. On the flop he can get two pairs, threes or strong draw and you're in trouble.
Shoving preflop is also good to steal blinds from late position when everybody else folded and you have middle strength hand.

If you are new player play only freerolls/league and eventually lowest possible stakes, right mindset comes with an experience.

It's bad to enter all-in with more than one person. Of course it depends on the situation, but 10-10 haven't got much chance vs. A-K and J-Q, vs. bigger pocket pair it's almost hopeless.
Anyway with A-A it's worth to try.

If your stack is big and everyone calls the big blind, it's not profitable to go to all-in - all will fold and you will not win many chips. The best solution here is to raise a normal size, in order to lure someone into the pot. In case of a raise after you, keep playing only AA, KK, QQ and AK and immediately go all-in. Drop all other hands.
If in order to raise (3-bet), you must invest more than half of your stack in the pot, you should immediately go all-in.

AA , KK any time , QQ AK it depends for me on the opponent and the tournament blind structure and our stack sizes . If <12 blinds ,in particular positions ,use many broadway cards and Ace rag and not only but more cards , especially in small blind , to go all in . Good Luck .

If you are medium to short stack, go all- in with any pocket pairs ranging from Ten, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces.

AK, AQ and AJ and A10 is good enough to be aggressive.

KQ as well is a solid hand to go all-in.

I would say any pocket pair works. If you're short on chips sometimes any Ace and another suited card will work

It depends on stakes. When are small stakes, AA, KK, QQ and AK. JJ and TT are risky for all in, even for small stakes. QQ is risky too, but it has better chance.

It depends on the position on which you play(early; average; late) and what's your stack. Find this lesson in the poker school.
Any combination of cards neither gives a 100% guarantee.
With a small stack and a combination of QK in early position I would not advise to go to the bank.
