I've noticed this on PS, people register with 1 minute left to late rego... Lots of people do this, any reason behind it? Most tournaments you'll be starting with less then 20bb if you do this... Is there some strategy behind it?

There are several reasons for/against this tactic, personally I think most people who late reg do so because they recognize that variance is so high in MTT they'd likely have busted already if they registered earlier even if they played properly. There's a thread discussing this HERE that might help :)

Many pros and cons. On the one hand to start playing with small bets convenient. You can increase the stack. If you go over the minutes until the end of the registration, you are fresh so to speak.

From what I have noticed, most people who register late, are those who just got popped and buying back in the tournament. I have seen several times where people register, go all in, and try to double or triple up really quickly.

Sometimes you get lucky and make it ITM without having to play for 4 hours

Sometimes if blind raise slowly and you can use cheap add-on, it's possible to squeeze through to opening prizes. And be in a small profit. Plus the saving of time.

Many players good in push/fold and they have slight advantage, this is the real reason.

I found that most of the players I see who do this just shove their stacks to hopefully double up quick because other players will disrespect their stack size.

It's a matter of time....i guess is better to register short (10bb) in late than to register from the beginning and see the others that double up in first minute of play and he is bigger than u :))

I think most players do this strategically as many say go all-in or fold, I think it will not go adding little his starting stack tournament

As said there benefits and harms. I will list a benefit and a curse. benefit: The majority of (idiots) is already eliminated. maleficio: Due to the small amount of BB you have few options, thus making it difficult to get the prize. But there is much that needs to be analyzed ...

I think that those who do this do to go with bigger blind and try to get lucky going all in on the first hand and thus be able to double up

Late reg. Means more player have been out and there a more chance to make it inthemoney if you what to do.. but more players are aggressive because of their stack is high.. so its a high possibilities that if you have a pair of aces or kings or aceking and shove it, they will call you.. so its easy to double your stack chips and extracarefull also with small chips that play tight coz they are waiting for good cards also.. in this case you must know also how to play in late reg. Because the blinds is high and its more like you only have 20 bigblinds left..

You save time => you are closer to ITM and if you dont mind some gambling, then its better.

Also many players feel safer with less BBs, where you can safely push almost any pair and steal some real blinds (not those 20 chips from first level)

Some might have strategic reasons but others might really just late in coming in with no specific reasons.

Agree above, avoiding donkfest, saving time, near the money, etc might be the reasons.
