Nowadays, I think a lot of players play online before casinos. I have been playing poker for 15 years. Started with some mates at home then online. Still never been to a casino

Today it is probably true. Sine almost everyone has a computer or phone with internet.
When I started to play for money in home games it was during the 70s - long before online poker. Did not have any alternative to live.

i think the majority play online first over live because of the accessibility, anonymity (to a certain degree), and convenience especially during the heyday of the mid-late 2000s. personally i got my first taste of poker playing live during college. that experience was a complete mess and i was clearly the fish. i stopped playing live realizing i needed to up my game and knowledge so i switched to online for years before getting comfortable playing live (this time in vegas).

That's definitely what happened for me. Being able to play online is so much more comfortable than trying to go out and mask all your physical tells. It takes away part of the game, but the convenience is so worth it.

As soon as poker went on line, players were drawn to the game in a manner many were not drawn to casinos.
At this point I would not be surprised to find well over 90% start playing poker on line. For one thing, there are play chip formats where you can learn and develop your game. Secondly, the convenience - not just in terms of enjoying playing in the relaxed confines of ones own home, but many have little or no access to live play in casinos.

I played online for 18 years before finally playing live. I only played the live game because I won a satellite to get into the day 2 game. Much prefer to play online though.

I also started playing online. Here in Brazil there are no casinos, they are forbidden across the country and the nearest one is in Uruguay. What we do have in only a few cities are poker clubs. Once I played a live tournament and it was held in a hotel event hall. The only other time I played live were in home games with 9 ppl all friends,

I don't know if it's true or not. It does sound logical since online poker is much easier to access.

I played online before live, only cause casinos, didn't have Texas hold'em. They had other cards games, but once texas hold'em, got big in live events, I loved playing live. But I would say I think , most people experienced online first. Well that's how it was ,for my family members and friends.

One can learn with lower stakes online than in casino as you can play as low as 1c/2c games and not worry about losing money. So that's why I think a lot of people prefer online first nowadays. I did the same thing myself.

I started playing live first. It all began with a single table tournament with some friends. I learned how to play poker that night and hit a full house on the last hand to win it. All I can say is I was instantly hooked. I started regularly playing the 1/2 at a local casino near my college town. And moved into online cash games during COVID. I don’t think it matters where you start, as long as your comfortable with the stakes your playing at. Although starting online opens the door to seeing multitudes of more hands and gaining experience faster.

I used to play live when I was younger with friends. Usually had a weekend get together. Then when we all went our separate ways, I started playing online. Always a fun time.

Hi all!
Undoubtedly, most of them participate in online poker first and many, like me, do not know live poker. If you are curious about poker, playing online is very easy, it is comfortable and also free, in a few minutes you are experimenting at table games.
