I would assume it's because players who rake more get a bigger stack to start with. If you were to look at the names of the players who start off with 1,000bb's (100,000 chips) it is high stakes MTT players. I'd imagine they pay quite a bit in rake each week.

It's unfair for the tournament but in their eyes it's fair that people who play more than others deserve more.

They are GG's version of a sitngo.
18 players, Rush mode until Ft , on FT mystery bounties kick in.
It's a fun game mode. I mainly play this format actually because it's not very time consuming (approx 30-50 min per game) and getting mystery bounties is always fun 😁

I think this format would probably be pretty good to grind with $1 games actually. At $0.25 it is kind of boring and the bounties are usually a little more than a dime, less than a dime and a nickel.
