The main feature of the qualifying tournaments is that the system for determining winners and losers is radically redrawn in them. Yes, when you play at a high roller tournament, there is one task-to pick up the pot. Other rules are dictated on satellites. The fight is not for the amounts, but for a ticket to the main tournament, which is awarded with a sufficient size of the game stack by the end of qualifying. There are three stages: early, middle and the so-called bubble.

So at an early stage, the players face the task first of all to keep the existing stack, so the tighter you play, the higher your chances of continuing the fight for the coveted ticket. Whether you have passed after this stage at the head of the chip list or in the basement itself, this will not affect your share of the winnings in any way, everyone gets the same.

Since PokerStars began reducing the numbers of guaranteed seats across the board, I play way less. I now prefer the 16 person sit and goes where the top 2 satellite in. Takes way less time to qualify so I have a lot of poker left in me.

I'll be the first to admit satellites are super difficult. I think much harder than money events. I'm learning still but it is very hard because others get lucky going all in with weak holdings. Dara o. Is the best and he has posted info here.

I play satellite tournaments often. Helps to gain entry in higher buy in events and some of them are very good values or even free buys. Nothing wrong with saving money if possible.

Whenever there is an opportunity, I play satellites! They have their own strategy and in general it's fun! By the way, my biggest drifts happened only thanks to them!

I play plenty, like them, generally gives the entry cheaper for me. Of course, play only turbo, hyper - except satties for high stake events -, don't see any point playing the long 4-5+ hours satties for an 11-55$ ticket...

In most cases, the starting stack is very small, so it really depends on luck, winning a seat to a bigger tournament. So do you play them?

This small starting stack thing must be some weird-o thing they do on poker stars.

On ACR most satellites play exactly like regular tourneys, 100+ big blind starting stack 10+ minute blinds and 12 levels of late reg.

ACR does offer faster structure events - and they cost more - and usually offer less tickets. But the smallest starting stack I know of for all sattys on ACR is 66 bigs to start with for paid for sattys - not freerolls.

You might consider a different site to play sattys on if the only experience you have is predatory structures, i.e. tiny starting stacks, reducing edge.

I have played when there is nothing else, but as a rule no. Small reward for the amount of time needed to win anything. Prefer monetary rewards, seems more satisfying.

I really like playing on satellites! I find it a great opportunity to play in big tournaments, and who knows, i might be in luck in that tournament and manage to get a paid seat.
I have managed to win tickets several times already, but unfortunately I couldn't play in a big tournament yet
There are really few starting chips, but at least it’s exciting from the start :)

I feel like satellites are a huge waste of time especially considering the odds of actually winning, tournaments in general can sometimes not be worthwhile if you ask me.

Sometimes

Satellite can be very profitable if you know how to play them right.
But you have to remember that winning a satellite the end is a tickt to a bigger tournament, and if you are losing player on those stakes so there is no point on playing the satellite in the first place. If your average buy in is 50 for exemple, play a 5 dollar satellites to those tournament.
I hope that was helpfull.

Yes, I often play in the satellites. I have a small bankroll so satellites are a great option for me. I especially like the Saturday and Sunday satellites on PokerStars.

I play 3-6 satellites nearly every day I play poker. I'm a tournament player exclusively anyway - so why not play them - in an attempt to earn a ticket into a bigger event.

I didn't start playing them until my bankroll reached 500x the satty buyin. I figured at that point - I'm really not wasting any money on them.
I win between 2-4 tickets per week - and that gives some great potential to increase the BR substantially and also some great experience at the next level of competition.

I'm only playing the satellites that are entries into the next stake. Since I'm currently 75% in micro tournaments - I play to earn tickets that are in low-mid stakes, from 11.00 to 55.00 entries.

I rarely play satellites. It is difficult to qualify for them. But sometimes I use this opportunity.
