I wanted to buy a poker book and I did not know which one. Apparently I recommend this book, I think I will buy it and some of daniel negreanu if I give the budget lol.

Yes he won the Aussie millions and the book details how he won, hand by hand. In my book that makes it worth a read.

Here's something else he made me think about. Once antes are introduced Gus says you should raise more than the standard raise. It makes sense. There's more in the pot to win. If your were raising standard 3BB pre antes maybe it should be more with antes. I never thought about this. Thoughts anyone?

With antes you steal 2.5BB, without antes 1.5BB. I see no reason to steal before antes. You risk more.

I find it disgusting to decide to listen or not listen people only because they have money or they don’t. And they are not guilty they are broke.

I can give you a link for the book. It's not very proper, but since you don't have a budget..

Unfortunately I do not. I am currently trying to build a small bankroll from from freerolls. And the reason my response is so late I had to earn some money to turn my internet back on lol.

search out for threads describing why 'raising smaller amount is more optimal in today's game' (although this may be changing soon)

Honestly Gus' book is garbage and there's just so many books one would be far better off to use their time on.

Mate, it goes both ways. The earlier part of the thread dealt with folks dismissing Gus because he'd lost 20 mil online. Shouldn't the same rationale apply? What other reason is there to be dismissive of him? Why else is he considered bad?

I know nothing about Gus except what everyone else reads and sees about him on youtube. But if peers like Brunson, Ivey & Negreanu respect him there's got to be good reason behind it. Besides, even if he's lost all that money, he still has enough to play at Bobby's room with the best.

If the man has the respect of players I admire and look up to I would listen to/read what he has to say. Simple.

Do they have respect for his book? Do they have respect for his ability to play the game... or maybe they respect him as a person? And what poker player in their right mind would ever disrespect a player they know who dumps $20 million on the online tables?? (btw, it's not speculation so suggesting 'if' he lost isn't accurate at all... he DID lose).

Personally I purchased & read Gus' book when it first came out. I was very disappointed by it. It's not good. There's nothing there imo.

It seems like a good book, it might be great for real life playing but I don't think it works too well in online games. Online there are some hands that pop up every time certain cards are in the river.

My opinion

Thanks for the in site on his game. I got Patty Dukes book sister of Howard Ledderer book "Value Betting" instead. I got a data compression book and According to Hoyal book. God told me though a movie only three books in the future. I guess it keeps it interesting to God and you can handle that much in your poker travels. It really could go there. You do need a luck bet in front of something sacred, or some tip off in casino to let God know your betting and/or animal because God gets heavy. They like the bet for our era to be three to five percent bets chance of winning. Something like don't back down but don't be foolish either a tipical poker move. As far as Gus Hanson mistakes they are only GOD helping him to get them to bet. Its best you don't make that mistake yourself.

I've heard so many good things about this book. This is next on my "To Read" list once I finish my current book (Ace on the River - Barry Greenstein).

I read this book ! I think it's an amazing book, and sure thing a good example how to play when you construct big stacks, when he got a decent amount of stack he kept putting a huge pressure on everyone around the table (till get to the final table). He's constantly aware of Pot odds, EV, reading his opponents. And how it pays off to be aggressive during bubble time.

I actually loved this book when it came out. It allowed us into the mind of a great poker player from beginning to the end of a major tournament. Its a great book that you can learn some things from him but his style is ultra aggressive. For most people his style of play wont help. Also this book is a bit old now and the game and styles played have changed. Its a great read and very interesting book but dont look at it as a training manual.

I personaly read this book two times now and I can say that this books is easy to read and worth your time. In this book you can understand how pro poker player think and learn to do same.
