Hello everyone! I'm Luis from Mexico (Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas), new to the forum although I've been playing online poker on GGPoker for a while. I'm passionate about Texas Hold'em, especially tournaments and freerolls. I'm here to learn, improve my game and participate in CardsChat freerolls (I already registered my GGPoker ID!).

Any advice for beginners/intermediates in MTTs? Or which is the starting hands hand that they find most difficult to fold? 😅

Greetings and thank you for the welcome!

Welcome to CardsChat, Luis! Nice to see another tournament player joining the forum.

For MTTs, one thing that helps a lot is patience early and adjusting as stacks get shorter. Many players lose chips in the early levels when the blinds are still small. Also pay attention to position, it makes a huge difference in tournaments.

As for the hardest starting hand to fold… for many players it's Ace-King when it misses the flop, or small pocket pairs when you keep hoping to hit a set 😅

Good luck in the freerolls and see you at the tables!

Hey there Luis,

I have always been passionate about tournaments in poker. I am getting back into playing them more often and had a ton of success in micro to mid level MTTs back in the glory days (2007-2010).

There’s no quick answer for how to get better. However here are a few things that helped me be successful:

1. Read, educate, and learn. Read as much as you can on the subject, look at hand analysis on the forums, watch videos, etc. One of my favorite books for poker in general is “Zen and the Art of Poker”.

2. Patience early (don’t need to risk chips when you have a deep stack on flips). Tournaments aren’t won in the first 1-2 hours, but they are certainly lost.

3. Get good at and practice strategic aggression when blinds get higher/when you’re in good position.

4. Play within your limits. Follow good bankroll management. Tourneys can be brutal with variance.
