How do you typically play a freeroll?

I'm new to this. I've been researching and was advised to play slowly and steadily in freerolls. However, I've noticed many players frequently go all-in, and if they're lucky, they'll build up a huge chip stack. Only then do they start playing. This is quite interesting. I'm in Vietnam, so the time zone is different. If I'm lucky, I'll make it to the final table; otherwise, I'll just go to bed early. Looking forward to hearing many shared experiences.

You can use freerolls to practice your own game strategy some, but the multiple all-ins in the beginning are always going to be present and those who play this way do have a valid strategy. It costs nothing to enter, so why not try and double up early on so that you have a better chance of making the money instead of struggling along for hours and having nothing to show for it.

You have to play very relaxed aggressively, since it's free.

Not all freerolls are the same. CC freerolls are sometimes slower paced and sometimes like a turbo. Other freerolls are hyper turbo where you can't really play slow and steady because you're going to be out in no time.

In the end, my advice is, these are free games. Your time is not free. Others' time is not free. You are going to see wilder than normal play. You should probably experiment with playing wider than you normally would with faster freerolls. If you get it in bad and lose, then don't feel bad, make some notes against who you were up against and see if that may help you in the future. Just keep playing your best and try being more aggressive against more passive opponents.

I play freeroll just like any other cash or tournament game. I try not to go all in everytime since I feel that creates a bad habit and in the long run bad for profitability

I applied that and got the chip lead, but then I got a bit too aggressive with a set against a flush draw, and sure enough, they hit their flush on the turn. Pretty regretful. I'll learn to take better notes on opponents.

Freerolls can be different, hyper or turbo, or slow. As for hyper or turbo tournaments, I try to just play with more or less stronger cards. As for slow freerolls, such as our CardsChat freerolls, I usually play tight and wait patiently for strong cards.

I played like you, but it wasn't easy at all. Strong hands still lost ridiculously. AA vs 42s. Flop 22K ... I'm fine!

I feel in the freerolls that being patient and waiting for a good spot to get your money in, generally lets you go further in the tournament and closer to the money. Also, if you lose when you play like this then at least you know you did not make a bad decision to get you knocked out.

I try at begin not to play hands with many players who go all-in. There is big chance that someone win, no mather how good your cards are. Better wait for one or two very goog pocket cards and than I try to double money. At the end you must try to make your chip account bigger because you lost everything if you dont try this.

I play in freerolls the same way I play in buy-in tournaments. I try to be patient and think only about my game, about good and high-quality decisions. Even freerolls can be a basis for practical skill improvement, despite the fact that many players play bingo in freerolls.

Yes, it's an excellent spot for skill practice. I've tried many approaches, and constantly going all-in significantly impacts hands where crucial decisions need to be made.

Good observation! You don't necessarily see that type of play though in the Cardschat freerolls at Replay Poker. It's a relatively small number of Cardschat regs playing so you get the opportunity to play more steady poker a lot of the time. The shoving doesn't start till stacks are down to 10BBs plus/minus.

Sometimes I see it in the Cardschat freerolls. They make crazy all-ins and become the chip leader. But most players play tight.

In a freeroll, you should be more aggressive and play loosely at the beginning and try to build a comfortable stack before starting a more consolidated game. If you have a strong/premium hand, bet big (4BB or more) so you can clear most of the speculative hands before the flop. After the flop, if someone bets, evaluate whether your hand has synergy with the flop to decide whether to call or not. If no one bets, make a continuation bet to evaluate the reaction of the other players. However, keep in mind that you must defend your stack and not waste it.
