How often do you cash in MTTs?

I've been crunching some numbers on my play statistics that I keep.

What I've found is that I cash in 16.42% of the tournaments that I play in (n=67). But, I don't know if this is good or bad.

I can't really look at an ROI number because I play mostly freerolls, so an ROI would be unrealistically inflated.

Therefore the questions are: Is this a good MTT player or a bad MTT player? And what is the generally accepted metric for such a statistic.

How do you get this kind of data? Do you keep own excel or what? Or do you guys use some other softwares. I'm playing mostly in unibet and I understood that all the softwares are prohibited in unibet.

This is not a total or completely accurate count, but I've been playing the same types of tournaments frequently (they're on demand games so I can join them whenever I know I have at least 2-2.5 hours available since that's how long these events usually take if I make it to the end), and I've cashed in 8 of the 13 events I played. Since these are lower stakes games, there is definitely an element of donk-style play and a lot of lucky breaks involved, but I've been pleased with my overall play in these MTTs and feel confident in these events specifically that I can finish ITM more times than not. Once I feel comfortable and successful at this level and type of event, that's when I'll consider moving onto others.

The last few weeks I’ve cashed in close to 30% of the MTTs I’ve played. Unfortunately they have mostly been min-mid cashes. The tournaments have gotten so huge it’s tough to get high. I played one today and finished 307/9500 and only tripled my buy in.

I know that I probably play too tight and sneak into the money but can’t seem to pull the trigger to build a stack earlier.

Depends on the stakes, I seem to cash more consistently the higher up in stakes that I go, but usually for minimal amounts. Playing in those $1-6 MTT's I rarely seem to cash, and the freerolls are probably 1 in 20 with everyone flipping until the money lmao.

I track it in google sheets.


I also have a sheet that tracks bankroll in/outs, sites and times


I would think, that if I can collect enough data, I can hack my playing. That is, distill the data into what is most profitable for me to spend my time on... eventually, when I have enough data.

sharkscope is another great way to track your tournaments and get a good breakdown. I just looked and my ITM % is 42.1 on PokerStars.

Okay. Nice. I just downloaded Hold em manager for test. Maybe I shoud start to keep some data on excel as well.

Be wary of sharkscope. It doesn't track every tournament. I've noticed clear discrepencies between my spreadsheet and Sharkscope's records. Sharkscope misses a few tournaments here and there.

But as a general 10,000 foot view, It's a reasonable tool.

I calculate that 30%, entering prizes, after going further it costs me, because I am a fairly conservative player and they begin to be more aggressive, I do not like to play all-in without seeing even the flop

Near 17% is a great percentage in freerolls! Who cares if it is inflated, it is still profit generated through your play. : )

I normally do not do well in MTT's but this site has allowed me to work on my game and tournament form quite a bit. When I do cash, it is not often and normally around the 5-10th position at best.
