How to reprogram the brain after a big hit?

Goodnight everyone, let's talk here of a challenge that we all would like to have: play after winning a major tournament. Yeah! It may seem ironic, but after hours and hours of tournament, tension, face the field again can become a major pitfall. With comfortable bankroll, we often tend to play more looser and much of that magnificent award can go away for a little euphoric tilt and chilled out. I wonder, how to reprogram the mind and start again after a big win?

It's happened to me. Blown money. The best advice I would give myself is Don't Play for a while. Stay away, enjoy, shrink my stake down to a normal reasonable level. Then return moving up on "level" of buyin.

In order to achieve victory in the tournament, you are a lot of emotional and physical strength was invested. If you are an experienced fighter and has the training, you can still play. Most importantly, this decision was made, not because of lust for another victory. The best solution, to give a 20-minute break or make a stop to sleep.

I just keep to my most basic rules. Don't play tired, don't play drunk, and keep it simple. Oh and NEVER change your max table amount without lots of thought and even more money then you think you probably need.

It depends on the buy-in for me. If it's a daily bingo tournament then I can play a few times a week of even every day. Bigger tournaments that take 12+ hours to even reach the final table then I'm done for the week. I don't change anything about my game or buy-in when I'm ready to get back in it. The HPT comes through twice a year and that's when I play my large buy-ins.

Every big hit is 5% of skill and 95% of luck. You didn't become a master, just got luck. Make withdrawal and imagine that you didn't win anything.

There was a poet who stated that treating winning and losing in the same manner was the way to tranquility. You have already received the best advice here. Regardless of your win, keep playing within your bankroll and only play at levels that match it. If you have a bigger bankroll, you can play bigger stakes, just keep them within reason. Just because you win $1,000, doesn't mean you have to play $25/50 cash games.

after a good score i quit and switch to xbox to wind down. when going to a casino i'll take my laptop so i can watch some videos if i get ahead b/c sometimes i tend to sit at the table too long, be up around 500 and slowly see it shrinkl

Just go take a shower.And then sleep.Then go to a private swimming pool and swim.That works for me.It calms me and helps me straighten out things.

You'll never do good on a second or third tournament after you've played 8 or 9 hours in your first one. It's like running the 100m dash. You'll never get a better time the second run.

If you get bad beat in a tournament and are still in it try changing your mentality to "I got no more chips, so I'll have to wait for a premium to shove, not play anything else". That could save you from playing garbage hands.

The answer is simple. Go to sleep.
After such a big tournament 6-8 hours of sleep would be perfect and when you wake up you can get back to work.

I go to bed, and start playing only when the all emotions go away. And I like to start with a new sheet, not thinking about the past winners.

It happens if you play a little game, and if you play well on the bankroll and play a certain limit then everything will be just like it was, and of course the well was used to make a small break after large win 5-10 days ...

for me if there is a break - I run for a few minutes away from the computer... tea, just out for breathing, something like that.
if no bkreak... well just try to keep it together untill the break =)

I year back or so I won ~100€ in a 1€ (or mb 2€) tourney. That was like 4x my bankroll. I lost a chunk of it peeking at a higher cashgame limit and after that it was hard to take a step back. Then eventually other things (besides poker) got important and I stopped playing for a few months.

So it kindof happend to me, but I have no remendy for it

Withdrawn most of the money if you don't level up the stakes/buy-ins you play. Take a big break and relax for a day or more , as long as you need . Play some freerolls or other cheap games to see if your game is the same or is more ''loose '' now before the real action .

My tactic not to blow all winnings is not to enter higher stakes tournaments/games. If you win $100 in a $1 game. After winning I stick to the $1 games.

The temptation to go have a look at higher stakes tables is there, but if you cant hold that temptation, not playing for a while is probably the best strategy.

Keep playing when youre doing good. The hardest thing is though adapting from fianl table play to early tournament.
