Hello CardsChat!

I have been a professional tournament player for 14 years. 2.5 years ago I started my own YouTube channel youtube.com/c/JeffBoski to document tournament poker in Las Vegas. Many of my vlogs have been controversial, but I feel that is the best way to show the realness of my unique occupation. I have visited fine steak houses, massage parlors, strip clubs and many casinos in the 300+ vlogs I have uploaded.

I have longstanding accounts on Pocketfives and Twoplustwo but I am new to this forum. Feel free to Ask Me Anything!

-Jeff

Jeff, I've watched this video at least 3 times, very well articulated.

My favorite part? Last few seconds when you bluntly say "NO" to the question if you recommend people playing poker professionally :)

If you read this, I would like to ask ... does the "poker pro lifestyle" have many phases of depression. Aside from Winning and losing factors and the fact it can vary from person to person, but just the general daily vegas lifestyle and the grind of the game, can it have an affect at the human level where the probable lack for relationships/family intraction/outdoor activity may lead to emotional downturn? Hope you understand what Im asking, i know its not worded the way Im meaning to ask.

I wish you get a chance to answer. Love your vlogs man, keep it up......Asain male 21-40 signing out

Depression seems more likely if you choose poker as your main source of income compared to other occupations. The emotional and financial swings are more extreme. I am glad you enjoy the videos. Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words. I am a one man show. I do all of my filming and editing on my iphone 11 Pro Max. All Twitter and Instagram posts are mine. It seems like the giveaways are a big hit. I will continue to give away equity that way and try to raise awareness for the Adopt A Boxer Rescue organization.

You have no idea how badly I wanted to see you win! ....good work Boski, really happy for you. Hope many more wins come along your way.

I was in the $5 tourney with you on ACR, was really cool of you to respond back in the chat box to my message.

Keep up the good work, love your videos, you seem to have a way to connect with people more than the other Vloggers out there.

BTW, would love to see a part 2 video of your "Truth about playing poker for a living", if you feel there is more to cover , this was a fantastic insight video.

Cheers

No plans for part two as of now but thanks for the feedback.

I might rant about people that sell action at markup on Twitter next.

Jeff , isn't it more beneficial for you to mix in more online play? Maybe your videos give an impression that you play a lot more live, so I'm not sure if you do more online play than just Sundays

Surely, a $400 rebuy live tourney yeilds a lot less ROI as compared to the massive guarantees that online plays offer with much lower buy ins. But what do I know ? :)

I play a good mix of live and online. Although live is generally softer, the lack of volume makes it less desirable.

Research for day 2

Hey Jeff - I've seen you and several other live tourney players "look up" the competition when making a day 2 or beyond.

1. Where do you find this information on who will be seated at your table? Is there a common place to find this information? Or is this specific to only certain high profile events such as wsop main?
I.E. If you happened to make day 2 of the Venom tourney - where would you find the information on table/opponent seating selection?

2. What research do you perform to "look up" these opponents? I have seen a couple references to hendon mob rankings. What does the hendon mob rakings provide other than showing how experienced (rec/pro) an opponent is.

3. Would you say in the short time available (over night) to perform research on opponents before the next session starts, researching player tendencies, play type, tells, etc. is also important. Is this even possible in the short time frame available before the next session starts, if you have no prior knowledge vs some of the players on your table.

4. Related to #3 is research on opponents an important task - or is it better to spend the limited time to focus on yourself, reviewing spots, eating, relaxing, etc etc, before the next session begins.

Thanks for your insight.

This is great when there are people who tell everything because beginners do not know much.

Hey Jeff - I've seen you and several other live tourney players "look up" the competition when making a day 2 or beyond.

For multiple day live events, use https://www.thehendonmob.com/
For online tournaments use https://www.sharkscope.com/
You can't look up your day 2 online tournament before play begins.

I use this info to get me a better idea of what type of player I am dealing with. Are they an experienced professional or an amateur? What is their average buy-in level? These things will help me figure out how likely they are to value bet thin or bluff in many spots.

The larger the field, the less likely you are to win it all. Don't focus on min cashing or making a final table. Visualize what you have to do to win a tournament. You will have to take many risks that make you feel uncomfortable. Don't be scared. Play to win.

Hello, Jeff. Can you tell me what satellites to play when playing on the microlimit?
Generally, the bigger the field size, the softer the satellite. Don't try to satellite into a tough tournament or one that will make you play weak/scared.

Have you decided what kind of schedule you're going to play at the 2020 wsop? Love watching your tournament vlog!

I will be playing all of the tournaments that have the biggest fields. Buy-ins will range from $250 to $10,000. Alternating between the Rio and Wynn most days.
