Why do you prefer tournaments instead of cash games?

There are a lot of people who play only tournaments - the question is mostly for them. I'm just curios why some people prefer not cash games but tournaments?

Maybe because of the spirit of competition?

Or the satisfaction from winning a tournament is more remarkable?

I rarely get to go into the cash game gains. Therefore, to avoid wasting money, I do not play cache.

Its just a matter of choice really.

Tournament is all about high risk, high reward. So if you have the appetite for it, then you can go for it.

Cash game, the risk is a bit controllable and you can play more judiciously. But the grind can be way too much, specially if you don't have huge bankroll.

For $1.10 on pokerstars, back in 2013-14, you could have scored $700+ on any given day (Just think about the amount of time I would have taken had I played cash game with that $1.10). That's what made the deal for me.
Now the prize pool has shrunk, but still you can score somewhere around $300-$400 on any given day with a $1.10 buy-in (Do check the tournaments for better insight).

I think is simpler to be victorious.

The basic basics it's easier to get than cash game, that you need to have solid advanced concepts in your gamestyle (pos-flop game) like ranges, odds and stuff.

Because is much easier to gain money in tournaments.

In cash game you can play for hours, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and you still have the same amount of money. In the tournament if you survive those hours, you have a nice payback (even if you end with 0 chips).

Also in cash games there are a lot of very good players, so why to play against them, when in tournaments there are many of 'fish'?
The other thing is that cash games are more unprofitable because of rake which you must pay each played hand.

Same for me. I'm no good at cash games and i feel that the quality of players is more higher in tournaments esp in freezouts

I like them both but I excel in short-stacked poker since I have more experience at playing a short stack than most of my opponents.

I also like being able to lose a few hands and still have a chance to go far in the event and win good money.

If I start off in a cash game down a few buy-ins my mindset suffers and I want to win my money back instead of just continuing to play, so the tilt factor is less in tournaments - you are only ever out your tournament buy-in if you take a bad beat.

I play very little cash game, more like, cash game, live game, when I go to the clubs here in my city.
The more I like tournaments, to have the pleasure of leaving behind the players, these days I played a FREEROLL TV in POKERSTARS and of 16,000 thousand player I was placed 45. I was too happy for my discipline and I know I played very well, I did my best game. Cash game does not work like that, and you do not have this pleasure.

Tournaments award skill and adaptation, while low stake cash games could be beaten by super old 286 computer when correct algothrim is inserted. Overall cash games are also super boring (been playing MTTs since 2004).

I like tournaments because everyone starts with the same amount of chips. In cash game sure i can start with 200 and so can you but you may have 10k in your bank account where I only have 10$ to my name which means I am going to play way differently. Bank accounts play less fo a factor in tournaments.

Also if you go to the casino with a limited amount of money 100$ can last you one hand in a cash game, where if you play a tournament you could be entertained for hours.

I also think it takes more skill and more time to master, therefore make it more interesting. Each stage of a tournament takes different tactics.

I like tournaments because its a fixed amount of buy in and you can make more risk taking decisions without losing your bankroll. I also like prized structure payouts so you know what you are getting into.

I like tournaments because (normal speed) because I can play longer and sometimes I can survuve some very nasty bad beats. In cash games it hurts so much losing with flush against higher flush etc.

It's more painful to lose real money over chips

And cash games are boring, you have to fold much more and still I overestimate my hands there time to time.

I personally prefer both equally! ....however there is lots of rich donks in cash games that can ruin the game of poker and it is quite sad.... so I guess I give the edge to tournaments

Cash games doesn't give level playing field as one who has high gambling capacity and money has advanage over others because he/she can buy in more BB.

I like tournaments more because of the lower risk of losing big money because I'm only risking the cost of entry and the chance to win 30-40 bytes than in the cash game where there is little profit and a big risk is 0.01 0.02 where you can lose to the fierce loodoman ... but to each his own, Tournaments

I also suck at cash games and do reasonably well on MTTs... I tend to tilt more on cash games... Dont know exactly why, but I manage to be more patient at tournaments.

It's easy, you make a mistake in a tournament you can recover. Make a mistake in a cash game and you pretty stuffed.

Also if you out in a cash game you need to put more money, in a tournament you only got the one buy in.

Downside of a tournament is the fact it takes so much longer to win money, a cash game you can make money in 5 minutes.

I feel that MTTs are becoming the only pure game left (especially online) With technology advancing, access to solvers, cheating, and collusion.Mtts are too advanced for a computer to beat and fields are too big for collusion to come into play.

The way things look MTTs may be poker's only hope for the future.
