I beg to differ. This is a terrible idea in so many levels. Someone who goes all-in with 97o due to lack of experience will be eaten alive in NL25 and will lose his savings in no time. I think you should also have at least 30 buy-ins for each stake.

My advice would be to continue at the lowest level and play tight, straightforward poker first. That's what I did and I have now climbed to NL10 just by playing and slowly building my bankroll in the meantime. That's when the learning happens when you gain experience by playing and see what works and what doesn't. The game gets harder on each new level so it's quite important to beat the lower one first and if you can't beat the lowest, don't even think about trying any higher yet.

Study, study, study, read, watch videos, play. Don't get too fancy and stick to the basics first. That's a good start in my opinion

Don't bluff at micro stakes. Play tight aggressive. Recreational players at micro stakes don't care about losing money so they'll call you with anything. As far as bankroll goes, for $2NL you should have at least 30-50 buy-ins ($60). Personally, I would start with 50 buy-ins ($100) to minimize risk.

I would start in the lowest stakes possible (assuming you play cash) and build up from there with 30 buy-ins or so. Go over your hands/stats and compare them to professionals. Move up as you get better with study and implementation.

Shoving with 97 is utter madness, what were you hoping to hit?
You should only ever shove if you are CERTAIN you have the best hand, or if you have an amazing draw on the flop, like an open-ended straight draw and a flush draw at the same time.

Cash games are where the money is, but you need to play smart. bluffing is practically a no-go since players at that level are unlikely to fold even if they hold a weak hand. You need to study the game a bit, tighten up your pre-flop strategy (quite a lot), and value bet your strong hands.

after reading what you have to say, it reenforces what I already know from my own experiences: Tilt is a players greatest weakness. Its the survival instinct hardwired into our brain that wants what we just lost so we take unnecessary risk. Or it happens instantaneously when we commit chips to the pot, and in one hand get milked for halfyour stack. We all go through it. The key to becoming a great player is being able to control the tilt. It's discipline more than anything because if you have played enough hands of poker, which it seems like you have, you know when yiou are making stupid plays but do em anyway. Dont worry, there are many of us who do.

Hey. You should fold very often to raise on post-flop. If you can play nice, you do not have to play a few hands pre-flop. The most important thing at microlimits is the size of the bets. If to the river you know his hand, then you should choose the exact amount of the bet for which he could pay. You should not use only standard bet sizes in 0.5PBS - 0.75PBS, use also underbets (0.3PSB) and overbets (1.5PSB). Hey buddy! Good luck on your next deposit! You had the right idea on playing .01-.02 and just gridding up a bank roll. Its ok to take a stab once in a while at higher stakes, but only when your playing good and never with all of your bank roll.


Bank roll management is key to success in this game. I would even start with only buying in with $1. Give your self 25 buy ins and your should never have to rebuy again with proper bank roll management.


On the point of bluffing. Bluffing at the low stakes is never a good idea. Just play tight, aggressive and bet for value. Players at this level good enough to read your bluff, they are only playing their cards.

Okay, so I have recently been playing on ACR and I am trying to develop a sound strategy for building a large bankroll without risking much money. I recently made the minimum deposit of $25. and decided to play at the lowest stakes available. ($0.01/$0.02) With this strategy of playing micro stakes only I managed to build my bankroll to $40 very quickly. This seemed to be working well. However, one night I decided to put all $40 on the line and went all in with 97o. Stupid right? anyway I am going to make another deposit and remain disciplined this time. I wonder though, in these micro stakes games, do you all find that a bluff heavy approach works well? Or do you prefer a conservative approach? I am also curious what sort of gains you have made and in what stakes? What approach did you use? Feel free to brag!

A bluff heavy approach is not a good idea for profit.

In the long run it is negative EV.

Bluffs here and there is a more profitable playing style.

And play position hard. Those are typically better spots to bluff in.
