Youtube recommendation algorithms work great so a true gem was recommended to me.
It's one of the most interesting and entertaining videos I saw recently.
Sal Piacente, a casino cheating expert, answers a ton of questions from players online. It's really eye-opening and goes into detail about the history of cheating and how casinos stay on top of it.
He covers both old-school and modern methods of cheating, including:
  • Casino Cheating: How casinos used to rig decks and how dealers could use techniques like "second dealing" to cheat players [01:34, 02:06]. He also talks about loaded dice [02:40] and false shuffles [23:16].
  • Player Cheating: Piacente explains how players cheat, from using marked cards [10:30] to more advanced methods like electronic signaling devices ("thumpers") [15:07] and collusion at poker tables [17:41].
  • Casino Security: The video also gets into how casinos use high-definition cameras and extensive surveillance [21:39] to spot cheats. He mentions how they look for unusual player or dealer behavior [04:54] and use digital databases to track known cheaters [20:23].
He even discusses famous examples, like the MIT blackjack team that we discussed recently and Phil Ivey's "edge sorting" technique [26:54].

The video is a solid reminder to all of us to be aware of what's happening at the table, whether you're playing at a casino or online. You can check it out here:

Did anyone ever see something suspicious at a casino, or know someone caught for cheating?
What other tricks or high-tech scams fascinate you most?
If you have security experience, how do modern casinos stay ahead—do you think cheating is truly beatable?

Though I played a zillion times at casinos, I've never encountered any form of cheating, whether from the casinos themselves, nor from players. But ofc, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. This one video already shows so much and there are others, some of them with that same guy.

Yes, casinos always find a way to beat any kind of cheating, but as soon as they do, some other forms come into play, especially with the incredible speed of today's technology evolution. But the casinos don't waste any time catching up. They have enough resources to stay on top.

This is like poker sites being rigged, the odds are in the casinos favor they dont need to cheat.

The consequences of getting caught would outweigh any benefit the casino received.

Do some casinos cheat- maybe, but if they are regulated its not worth the risk.

Fortunately, I play at small stakes tables so I am not likely to run into players who are trying to beat the system or card count. It slows the game down and they are not fun to play with lol.
