You were playing at a blackjack table and somehow you had a nice streak and started winning almost every hand, so you doubled and tripled your bets till you got up to over $15K from $600.

All of a sudden, two security guys approached you and accused you of cheating or counting cards, which was not true. They then took you to an office and searched you. Not having found anything, they give you the choice of leaving with $5K or they would call the cops.

What would you do?

If I played honestly and have nothing to hide, why do I need such “compromises”? Please tell me, did I play honestly?

The situation you describe is extremely unpleasant and violates many civil rights if the accusations are false and the guards' actions are illegal.Do not show aggression, do not try to run away, as this may be regarded as evidence of guilt.

The post says clearly that their accusations were false. You only had a lucky streak, and they thought you were counting cards.

Ofc you're not going to do that. There's no need. You're offered to leave with $5k or they will call the cops. What would you choose?

I'd want them to call the cops. I'm not going to let someone steal $10,000 from me without a fight.

I'll just leave with $5K & come back the next day to win again.

The other choice is to stand my ground & let them call the cops? I will not win that argument. Any business can refuse service & trespass anyone even without reason. That's the law. I'm not woke to insist any human rights while disregarding the rights of the business owner. If I resist the cops they'll just throw me in jail for trespass. Not the correct way to protest.

My right is not to return to the business again. As I'm not cheating, I also have the right to sue the business. This may not happen though because the casino will not do that without any evidence or just for several 1000 dollars. If it ever happen, then I must have been counting cards or cheating for some time with several millions in winnings already.

I would agree to involve the police, conduct an investigation, and receive compensation for moral damages.

Pretty easy just leave with your money.

If you want to come back you can try, maybe they will do a more thorough review of the hands and conclude that you were just lucky.

Usually before something like this happens they would say that you are not allowed to adjust your bet sizes, they may even switch dealers and shuffle.

This is not something that could happen in a legitimate, reputable casino, so I assume you mean an illegal casino…counting cards is not illegal…casinos do not want card counting because it narrows the house advantage to zero and can tilt in the player’s favour…you can’t be arrested, only asked to leave,,,,which you would with the full $15,000.
If this scenario is in an illegal casino, movies would have you leaving with broken bones or in a body bag.

That's exactly what anyone should do. Call their bluff, because even if they call the cops, they will need some kind of proof, which they don't have. They have the right to ask me to leave and even ban me from their premises if they want, but I'm not leaving without my winnings.

I don't agree with you YLAN. You did not cheat, so you deserve to take your winnings. Coming back the next day will not guarantee any more wins. I'd rather wait for the cops. I haven't done anything wrong.

Hi Naji-san, no argument there. But you are at the mercy of the business to give you your winnings or not at this point. They have the power to kick you out of the property with or without reason just like you can with any stranger that goes inside your house.

Hi Naji-san, what do you expect when the cops arrive & the business trespass you from the property? Cops do not determine on matters of civil dispute, that's for the courts. Cops only enforce the law & when trespassed will ask you to peacefully go away or go to jail.

"He who has nothing to hide has nothing to fear"...
We try to avoid trouble as much as possible, but if it comes our way, we need to react!

It would also depend on how comfortable I would feel in the situation!

Sometimes, it's simply better to avoid the hassle, but wait, it's $10,000... I think if I truly won genuinely, we'll go all the way!

YLAN-san, people have rights. I know that those rights are not respected in many, if not most countries (Including mine). So, people give up easily, having been used to oppression and exploitation. But in the US and probably in most Western European countries, they stand for their rights.
In a situation where you haven't done anything wrong, even the cops can't take you in unless they have a reason to. In this case, the casino people have to tell them about the deal they gave you, and deducting a certain sum of your winnings without any proof of you cheating, will not look legal to the cops.

I will call the beautiful lady who is in the room a few floors above and who, by coincidence, works as an administrator at the same establishment, and ask her to help me solve this unpleasant problem...
...... She will come and dismiss the security guards from their duties. Then, together with my mother, who is waiting for us in the car park, we will drive to my home.

Counting cards is not illegal so if you dont have any cheating device on you police will do nothing other then trespass you if the owner of the casino ask for it.

True, and in this case, I think you'll be allowed to keep your winnings. Maybe banned, but who cares.
