Well, yes it can and it did happen many times, but only when they suspect counting cards or some kind of cheating.
If it's about counting, they ask you to leave (With your winnings) or stay but only bet the minimum as long as you play.
If it's about cheating and they found something on you (A device or whatever), say goodbye to whatever you've won and expect to be banned ofc, hopefully they don't beat you up upstairs before throwing you out some backdoor.

We'll I would say it depends on which casino that is.
If it's a legal, big casino I would tell them to call the police and also the local news.
Even if you have counted cards - that's not illegal. They just have the right to ask you to leave the casino but I'm sure they do not have the right to keep some of your winnings.
If it's not that legal I would take the 5k and run...

In the case of an illegal operation, I think I would also be happy with the $5K, otherwise, you can easily imagine what could happen.

But why would you lose $10K knowing that you're innocent ?

That's the right thing to do IMO. I'd never let them get away with such a scam.

You were playing at a Blackjack table and somehow you had a nice streak and started winning almost every hand, so you doubled and tripled your bets till you got up to over $15K from $600.

All of a sudden, two security guys approached you and accused you of cheating or counting cards, which was not true. They then took you to an office and searched you. Not having found anything, they give you the choice of leaving with $5K or they would call the cops.

What would you do?

I really don't know what would be the recommended action in this situation, however I personally did run into something similar a few years back at a Spokane, Washington Casino. I was playing the $5 Minimum bet blackjack table and I hit an unbelievable winning streak amassing over $300...on $5 bets...the pit boss approached seized my chips and had me escorted to the office where they accused me of counting cards..to which I replied, really counting cards and betting only $5. get real. after a few minutes they agreed and apologized and I left with my $300. My lucky day all around.

Omg! They were so stupid. Counting cards and playing the minimum possible!! Besides, even $300 was not an enough considerable amount for them to bother you.

Cannot agree with that. You won, you didn't do anything wrong, you should take your winnings with you.
They can't have any "false evidence" against you, there are cameras above every table.

Of course, I would agree to the police option. That way, I would have a chance to get all my money back. I think anyone who agreed to such a ‘compromise’ would simply confirm the security guards' suspicions of foul play.

Exactly, accepting their deal becomes a suspicious action in itself.
