At least for me Nick, tipping is done based on how I viewed the service. If I show up on a weekend evening to a place I know to be really popular, then I expect the service to be slower & allow for that. Should the food be received as ordered, correctly prepared, the waiter checks on our table as often as he/she can, requests are taken care of in a prompt manner, then we tip appropriate to the service & most everyone take the time to thank the waiter for the good service. If the service is bad, we take our business elsewhere.

In the casinos I visit, in our local gambling halls, you have to go and get your own drinks. But in general, I would be willing to tip if the waiter deserves it. In a restaurant or bar, I leave a tip in most cases.

Getting your own drinks actually solves the problem. But it wouldn't be possible in big casinos. Even at the buffet where you get your own food, the drinks are usually brought by waiting staff.

I don't think winning or losing should be a factor in the equation. The waitress has nothing to do with the outcome of your session. Their job is to bring you drinks right to your table, if they do it in a prompt, respectful manner, they deserve some appreciation.

I find it hard to get past the fact that the people are subsidising the wages that should be paid by the millionaires that own and run the casino's.

I'm sure the CEO and other executives that do a lot less work than the wait staff, are not reliant on tips. I'm a firm believer of a fair days work, for a fair days wage. We often hear that the USA is the best country in the world, if it is, then why is the min wage so low. The min wage here is more than double the current US min wage.

I totally understand your point man, and it makes a lot of sense. But I'm sure you would've gotten used to different things had you lived in different places.

CEOs and other executives don't do "a lot less work", they work a lot too, it's just that the wait staff's work is harder. And it wouldn't make any sense to tip a CEO. Should every customer go to the CEO's office to tip him?

I think we can only talk about good service when sitting at a restaurant for a nice dinner. In a casino, all you can consider as good service is your order taken and brought in a reasonable amount of time. The waitress does not have time to check on you every few minutes and ask if everything is fine.

I only do not tip if the waiter clearly served me poorly, was inattentive, or took a very long time to bring my order, although this happens very rarely.

I am a ex-server/restaurantuer Yes, I always tip and would find it very hard not to BUT I would also do it when they were done serving me? DO they do tabs at casinos? probably not Idk Never been lol

BUT in Canada servers do not make minimum wage <3 so it is always kinder to tip <3

I went to a conference in Baltimore earlier this year and the taxi driver added a bunch of zig-zags on the way from the airport to the hotel in order to run up the meter, that turned out to be his tip because he didn't get one from me.

Well, that would be in a restaurant. Here, we are talking about a simple free drink at a table game in a casino.
And yes, in some places, when it's a party of 10 or more people, the gratuity could be automatically added to the bill. But 20% is a little too much though. In NY for example, it's normally 15%.

But seriously, what you said is done almost everywhere, in bars especially. It would be impossible to do it in casinos since people move around. Imagine a poor waitress having to look for everyone she had served drinks to. Good thing those drinks are free.

I always leave a tip unless the service was extremely poor.

This applies to a bar or restaurant rather than when playing in a casino. If you had horrible service and you decide to not leave a tip, rethink that idea. If they find no tip they'll probably think that you forgot so you won't get your message across. At least fifty years ago someone told me that in these situations you leave a penny to insure that they know you didn't forget.
