gambling should be fun, but sometimes it can get tricky. Knowing the early signs of a gambling problem can help you or a friend stay safe and enjoy the game without falling into trouble.

Look out for these early warning signs:
- Betting more money than planned or chasing losses
- Feeling stressed or irritable about gambling
- Hiding gambling from family or friends
- Constantly thinking about the next bet or game

Ask yourself:
- Have you spent money meant for bills on gambling?
- Do you feel guilty or scared about how much you’re playing?
- Is gambling taking up more of your time than before?

It’s okay to enjoy the game, but spotting these signs early means you’re ahead of the game. Let’s share tips and stories to help each other stay in control!

I don't think than you are enjoying something, you can analyze your feelings right away because you are in the process of enjoyment, and analysis and enjoyment are not comparable.

In my case atleast, I enjoy when I win and ofc, vice-versa. But this specific post was intended for those who started playing recently and loosing big without even realising what harm it can do to them.

Emotional control is probably one of the most important aspects of poker. If you let your emotions take over, things can spiral out of control fast. Staying calm and disciplined not only protects your bankroll, but also helps you make clearer, more rational decisions when it matters most.

I play freerolls 95% of the time. Just so if I lose control, it's not a catastrophe.

Sounds great, this way you only win 😁😁

And yes, make sure you save your winnings rather than playing with it 😌

If you think about it clearly, why do people gamble? The obvious answer is to win something. Normally money.

I think the only time you should gamble is if you lose or win, and it does not affect the rest of your life. Never gamble with money meant for bills, food or children's education, or anything that will have a permanent effect on your family's life.

Think before you spin !!

No, when I play at a casino, I feel in control the entire time I spend playing on slots, roulette and blackjack. In general, losing control at a casino is very dangerous for your financial well-being. You need to decide for yourself how much money you can afford to lose. And stick to that amount. ;)

Honestly, I have nothing to add. You said everything there.
As to my personal experience, I only went over my head a couple of times, thanks to Blackjack, online. But normally, I only play poker when I go to a casino, and only take a certain amount (cash) with me, no cards.

Are there any drills to help improve emotional control? I understand that discipline is important, more or less.

You coukd start do a lot of sports and/or eat very healthy. This could very much improve your performance at the tables and away from them. Hope that helped.

In addition to this, i would suggest the following:

1. Ensure you are sharing your gambling results to a close friend of yours, whether it’s loss or win.

2. Ensure you have a specific BR particularly for Poker/ Casino and at no point you should be bothered about the expenses for the basics in life.

3. Have adequate sleep 🛌

4. Take timely breaks or have vacation when faced with tilts …

I could prolong the list but ultimately it all boils down to your own mental health. If you are having external pressures whether from family/ work, focus on clearing that from your mind before gambling.

I think that those who have the problems you described simply won't read this post :)
If a player has an addiction, I think the best thing they can do is seek professional help.

In the past many times I could lose my patience or bankroll control , not many times but yeah , sometimes it did happen . Nowadays I have absolute control over losses , a bit boring in comparison to the past habits , but better safe than sorry
