I feel the same way. I started playing tournaments in 2018 because I wanted to do something competitive again after a fifteen or so year layoff. The cash is nice, but it is basically just the trophy you get when you win or place in a tournament. When I shot sporting clays and small bore rifle it was a pin, trophy, or merchandise. And in my high school days, my one varsity letter in the 1968-69 season. :) No matter what the medium of the prize is, the true reward is what you've accomplished.

You and I have a lot in common here. Being a athlete with hopes and dreams of more before getting hurt at the edge on making my dream happen. Poker is the one way I keep competitive juices going and happy with new goals in life. My new hope is to win some live tournements for a ring or something but even it it never happen poker has satisfied my competitive nature.

I prefer tournaments for 3 reasons

- The exciment of getting to the late stages
- Possibility of winning a huge prize with a small buy-in
- Stack sizes variability and the different strategies for each size (contrary to cash games, where most of the time you play with 100BB)

Cash games always appeared to me more like a way to build a bankroll with less variance than a funny game

I prefer tournaments for the same reason. You need a lot of money to be competitive in cash games. And I love this feeling of achievement when you reach ITM and of course the FT. And the victory sensation if you win a tournament

I always liked playing in tournaments more, and I always play in them. Sometimes I can play a cash game, but only to complete some task.

Obviously a cash game, tournaments are long and very demanding on the psyche

I play 95% cash games, but tournaments have a fresh level of excitement where playing for your tournament life seems more significant than another buy in during a cash game.

Well, depends of the time. As a recreative player, I do play all types of game, like SNGs, spins or blast kind of games, cash and tournaments depending of my mood. Tournaments are a good choice when you have plenty of time to play, because the best ones usually last really long, sometimes even days.

As for the cash games, SNGs and others, they are better when you want something faster and with less variancy, a.k.a. when you want to reach ITM or wish to take a screen shot of you on some final tables lol

I rarely played cash games and I didn't do very well. They seem to have a higher level too. I generally play tournaments.

Tournaments are more fun, but cash is more profitable. Lately I've been playing cash games and when I'm ahead (which is more and more often), I play tourney's with some or all of my winnings from those cash game sessions. It's a way to scratch my tourney itch, while maintaining decent bankroll management.
