At any job and in any hobby, you need to take breaks and take days off, rest is always needed, this time can be given to the family.

I can relate to this situation as I have a wife and two young kids, along with work and household responsibilities. Like you, I usually get some time to play poker after 10 PM when the kids are asleep. I try to keep poker as more of a hobby or entertainment, as it’s not ideal for the kids to see me playing cards. Balancing family time and poker definitely requires setting boundaries, and for me, playing late at night works best.

I find that I mostly play poker after work during the week, but that is also the time I get to spend with my family, so it's one or the other.
How do you manage this? Do you give yourself a cut off time where you know you don't play anymore to have free time for family and friends?
In my case, my husband is a poker player and I started playing too, watching his game every day.

I live alone, I don't have a wife or children, so it's not hard to find time to play. Sometimes, 1-2 days a week when my girlfriend comes over, I take a break. But I'm pretty sure that if I had a full-fledged family, I would probably just stop playing poker. I think it's really hard to find a balance, considering that we only have 24 hours a day.

Dude, this could be a dilemma for you if you are not convinced about what you want with poker, if you want to be profitable recreationally, then I advise you to study more and play specific games with a lot of focus and that way you will have more time for family and friends.
The other side is that you treat poker as a job and dedicate exclusive time to poker, seeking leisure in some moments with prior scheduling.

As do many questions like this, it relies almost entirely on where you are and what your own personal goals are and what you're looking to get out of poker.

If you're looking to become a top level poker player you're probably not going to be seeing much of your family for the first few years... guess what,

If you're looking to be at the top level in anything else like business or a life pursuit you're probably not going to be seeing much of your family for the first few years either...

If your poker playing is preventing you from fulfilling your responsibilities I would say it's a problem.

If you're not and especially if you're making money your family should care, it's a hobby that pays, most other people's hobbies cost them money.

Or you could play league of legends or WOW for 20 hours a day for a few months and then use the few hours a day of playing poker as a reasonable compromise.

Hope this helps!
