agreed with Tygran. Like no offense but losing a few buy-ins is a bad day, not a downswing. At 6max/HU it'll be even worse but even at FR wait until you lose 15-20 buy-ins. Ask Jagsti what a downswing is. I mean sure it's one thing to be like "dropped 4 buy-ins today, kinda sucked back at it tomorrow", but I just kinda lol when people are talking about horrible swings of 2-3 buy-ins up and down and their downswing of like 5 buy-ins. We're playing a game where the reason the fish give us their money is they have the illusion of being able to win. If there weren't swings we wouldn't make money, plain and simple.

I'll admit to being guilty of this on a near monthly basis. I mean, the last 3 months I've gone through downswings of 6ish buyins, and this one for this month is 13 at 100nl ... so ... it's put into perspective how bad things can go.

Totally agree if you have a 3-4buyin down day, it's not a downswing just a tough day. If you have 4 days straight of losing 3-4 buyins, its time to do serious reflecting/analysis/break time.

Had the craziest 9-man sng

2 people out in the first hand, another 2 out against my QQ (which I was going to fold) four or five hands later, get to the next level two players couldnt wait to give me their chips with the good ole all-in bluffs against my set and fullhouse. At 25/50 level it was 3 handed and it was over by 75/150 an easy win for me, if only all games where this way.

Struggling building a decent roll up then realised I am joining to many mtts and leauge type games or just donking the weeks profits away of a sunday. Going for it now though in a positive mood seeing way too many third places and chucked two cashes away trying to be a smart arse but at least thats my fault.

Last year my first in real money poker I made profits but withdrew, this year I want to focus on 9 mans instead of 18 man games, cut the verience a little and try start a good grind with positve not passive playing unless of course the situation calls for it.

Cheers, that was a tilted posting lol, should've put it in the vents bit really, I sacked off the idea of the ev graph, mainly b/c (and zachs said about this) i'd convinced myself it was all down to running bad and if i seen a plus ev graph i'd want to cry lol

This is the worst i've ever ran i think so its a bit tough for me, i know its going to get tougher than this but i'm going to man up and deal with it sensibly, had a look at my sessions and i think i'm having a bit of trouble playing overpairs, specifically the bigger ones, seem to be paying off everybody that hits a set!! i think this comes from just moving over from 5nl where you can play an overpair like the nuts b/c of all the tp.../tk/gk/bk lovers there lol

Theres just sooo many completely passive players that sit c/c'ing their AA or KK or set or quads!!! lol This could stem from me being a bit too aggro, but it's denting my confidence b/c i now keep seeing monsters under the bed when i get c/c by anyone and i'm not getting proper value for the hands that i'm winning with.

Anyways, gonna do the right thing and put some hands in the HA section, would be much appreciated if a few of you guys could take a look for me, cheers.

umm overpairs are the nuts at 10nl too. and at 50nl. and probably at 100nl. tptk is the nuts at 10nl as well generally

What level do you play ?
Do you play a high volume ? Are there any more reg CCers who play sngs ?

Are you positive this is the way forward for you or is it a bankroll building method and looking to get into cash later on.

I've been kind of indecisive this past few days/week of what I want to be playing. I don't know of cash is the thing for me anymore. Maybe I need to put in more work and reevaluate my game. I'm taking steps to that but I'm like not fully committed. Saw an excellent introductory vid on DC on sngs and what you need to make serious $$ at it. Been contemplating but not having played sngs over a large volume and consistent I don't really know and feel how swingy it really is..

like ive told you a mirrion times dude, anyone can beat sng's for a very nice profit, if they are willing to put in the study hours when it comes to learning ICM. You have to be able to deal with hudge swongs and the fact you will be bored off your face if you dont mass multitable however

I don't have a problem with mass multi-tabling.

I am just unsure if I should make this switch, switch.

Wow as much as I love making money, playing other solid regs HU is actually pretty fun (and of course helpful in getting better). Actually never seen the guy before but he was pretty good and we 2-tabled each other for a bit HU at 400nl FR tables. Just got me thinking a ton about what we're both repping, and what my overall strategy with different holdings given the board would be and how I can maximize that value. Even though I'd rather play a fish all day and take his money vbetting hands and not bluffing much, it's fun/valuable to play a good player every once in a while.

I'm the king of teh d/swongs.

As a little taster of my d/swongs over the past 3 months:

Mar 2009 = 25 buy ins

Feb 2009 = 1 x 15 buy ins, 1 x 18 buy ins.

Jan 2009 = 1 x 15 buy ins, 1 x 30 buy ins

Yeah Im the king of swing!

I have obv had some upswongs as well but yeah this year sucks so bad!

Oh BTW, an example of how **** I'm playing, I checked a str8 flush on the river in position the other day :D, seriously!

To be honest Enty I know my game needs imroving a hell of a lot, and cash games are something I want to try. I started on 45 mans lost moved to 3 dollars 9 mans made some losses back. Then decided to play 18 man 1 dollars and slowly built up before tilting most away last few weeks.

Now I am playing 1 dollar 9 mans and grinding the last week I have come 3rd too much because of some poor desicions but I am slowly improving.

sharkscope Mr Mc1 at Stars (I have a few at full tilt too) and see how much I have lost and I have ground it back up. Right now I am one tabling untill I can trust myself to make the right decissions. I will not move up untill I have 50 buy ins and will try multing at 1 dollar 1st.

The bonus at playing at starts is that if you do well you can earn the Sng planets bonus, the most I got 110 on low orbit which is handy. Plus a ticket to the 12k shootout if you place top 10.

Its a bit of a slog but the last 4 months or so I have learnt a lot about patience, outs, how to cash in these things and reading people. My problem is sometimes I give people too much credit lol.

Or just do this, which is probally just as good lol, but Vanq here has a point some people call down with crap, for me is a learning tool and I still got a load to learn.

I can see myself after i get 100 dollars moving to two tables then maybe 3, you seem to know a bit, multi tabling you have a good chance at 100 sngs in a week and hitting the leaderboard. You should look up Planets promotion and look at it see what you think just dont base your game round getting on it!!

Just looking and I have cashed in 11/14 sngs so far this week, alas most are 3rds 3 of them I threw away for sure but a couple got in good and just god outdrawn on the river, the most confident I am inn these games are heads up, if I get heads up more often than not I am winning.

Fwiw Enty I play 6-12 tables of $5 normal single table SnGs and having upped my volume recently am finding them profitable if swongy.

As long as you can keep calm during the volatile patches it will even itself out. I manage to get anywhere from 20-50 a day done and the play is always the same, be a nit early and know your ICM and when to blind steal and most importantly in single tablers how to play the bubble. You get into a pattern pretty quickly.

I am only doing it to get a roll for cash but it is worth a shot.

Also found an "excellent" short-stacker 79/39/3 :) Basically if I had a hand I liked against 2 random cards I just bet his stack (it was usually between $5 and $3) and he'd call. I won his little stack with JJ, KQ, and A3 against his K2,T6, and K9 respectively. Nice guy.

I can't believe how much nittier 50NL is than 25NL, I'm playing 22/18/2 and people just fold fold fold fold, 3bet, fold fold fold fold. Then you find the occasional fish and win a stack. Easy game imo.

I like March, it's fun. Seeing as I started out at 10NL and I'm almost ready to jump completely up to 50NL.

I think this reflects my situation at the minute, down 2.5BI on the 17th, 3.5Bi yesterday, I can deal with a 3 or 4 BI swing but when it just feels like its getting a bit more consistent it starts to get to me i think.

I put a few hands in the HA thread though so i'm dealing with it in the right way i guess.

One of the main causes of my problems is checking my cashier more than i should do, I know that i shouldnt be so results focused, it's just practicing being non-results focused that i seem to be having trouble with lol

I know a lot of you guys run a lot worse than this sometimes so i'm going to stop complaining about my 5BI "swings" from now on and deal with it like a man :)

By the end of today I will have 3/5 assignments done and dusted. I have completed 1 now but just got to do bits and bobs to the others, reports and analysis etc then I will have another 2 done.

Frustrating not being able to play pokahz but ask icemonkey said "poker will always be there" and hes right. If I **** my assignments up then I will just suck and fail in my education and I want a first in the first year. Im on course for a first in 4/6 modules so hopefully bump my grades up in these 5 assignments.

GL all and see you at the tables in about a week!

That sucks Sean, but just keep at them, they don't always get there. I mean the number one problem that most of these players have is that they call too much, so naturally sometimes they're going to outdraw you. Sucks when it happens but it's more than made up for when it doesn't.

For the record, I'm also well below all-in EV but that just means that when the variance train swings my way the heater's going to be amazing. :)
