If you were to play poker for a living, would it be live or online and where would be your ideal place to live and play?

For me, I would lean toward at least 80% live, and it wouldn't be in the desert because I cannot tolerate low humidity so I would have to pass on Las Vegas.

Live would be my choice as well.
But where is a tougher question. After living in finland my whole life with long dark winters I would choose a place with better climate.
Cost of living and taxation should be decent, and the overall security and infrastructure in that country should be working well.
I guess I should be a traveling player shuttling from one big tourney to another inside Europe

I am 100% in agreement. Having been there last year, I think the 103°F temperature was perfect. I have looked up the details around this, and I see that Nevada does have a good rate of taxation. I found this ;

"The State of Nevada does not impose a state income tax on individuals or participate in the administration of Federal Income Tax. This means that if you live and work in Nevada, you do not need to file a state income tax return based on your earned income, such as wages or salaries."

Effectively, you have to pay taxes on your property. Nevada has a 6.85% state sales tax rate and an average combined state and local sales tax rate of 8.24%. There is no inheritance tax or estate tax.

So Las Vegas for me. (y)

I got hooked on playing online lately, but if I were to do it for a living, I'd be mostly playing live.
As to where, I think I will stay where I am since live games are kind of soft, but I'll certainly do a lot of traveling.

If I were playing poker for a living, I’d probably choose a mix of both live and online — live games for the atmosphere and reads, online for volume and flexibility. As for the ideal place to live, somewhere with a good poker scene, low cost of living, and solid internet — like Thailand, Malta, or maybe mexico. You can grind online comfortably, travel for live events, and still enjoy a relaxed lifestyle when you’re off the tables.

If poker would be a living, wud travel as possible to all big live tournaments & play online the rest of the time. I would love to reside near Monaco (feels like a cool place) to avoid typhoons in most of the year that cuts-off power & internet.

Most profitable to play live but you know... there's people there.

If I was American I would be in Texas or Florida for live poker or possibly LA but I think the cost of living would put a lot of pressure on your earnings.

Vegas when the tours are there is really profitable and you can stay in the Casino all day or follow the tours around as the games are usually good too. I want to start playing more live in my city and start going to Vegas for long weekends when I build up a bit of a live roll.

I assume you mean for cash because if you're a tournament player you have much less say in when and where you'll get to play unfortunately.

I think Las Vegas seems like poker heaven although I like online generally.

I love the desert, low humidity, bring on the heat,

it's close to various friends and family👍

Hey there,
iam on my way and iam actually spend much time in progress and preparation. I guess to become a professional poker player in germany, you must first prove you are a consistently winning player by mastering the game and building a substantial bankroll, as very few players are profitable enough to go pro. I will start by playing at licensed online sites like the one operated by GGPoker.de or in state-run casinos that host live tournaments.

I am right there with you. That 103°F heat was actually perfect, dry and super comfortable. Nevada’s tax setup really seals the deal too. No state income tax, reasonable property taxes, and sunshine all year make Las Vegas sound like a great choice.

I think I would want to play live if I could go pro. If I could afford it and there were no other barriers, I would want to live in the UK or canada so my winnings would not be taxed.

For me personally that would be 99% online. Can't imagine sitting around in live casinos all the time at the same table with mostly random and miserable people. Im not even going to start about the huge bankroll that is needed and all the side costs.

It would definitely be 100% live, and I would like to live in Monte Carlo, in the Principality of Monaco, it would be perfect.

Slightly serious live is another experience and more exciting also adds the conversations with what you are playing

I would prefer to play online because you don't need to be in one place; all you need is a laptop and internet access, and you can be anywhere in the world and play.

For poker players, it's best to live in countries with low living costs, a strong poker community, good internet connections, and favorable legislation, such as Southeast Asian countries like Thailand or neighboring countries like Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Armenia.

Online would be my preference if I was making a living at the game.
1. Convenience to play any time day or night.
2. Multi tabling action!

I'd like to live somewhere a bit warmer (and less damp:p) maybe Spain on the Coast or Italy near the Mountains.

I'd grind online from a cheap coastal town to keep my living expenses low.

I’d choose online — more flexibility and freedom to play from anywhere. My ideal place would be somewhere peaceful with good internet, like Malta or Thailand. Low stress, nice weather, and plenty of time to focus on the grind!

If I am a professional player I would prefer 50/50. and I would like to live in a very quiet place, play online only very calmly, I like to play very quietly. That's how it works for me.
