I listen to music and drink cider while I am playing poker, to me it is a time to relax
and as I only play micro stakes I can drink while playing and will never lose enough
to worry about.
Consuming alcohol while playing poker is definitely harmful. Even in recreational and social games, drinking alcohol is not acceptable if real money is at stake, as those seeking performance and financial results should take poker seriously.
Eating sth and listening to music . Also reading some threads or articles or watching movies or videos or twitch at the same time , cause playing poker for hours can be very boring sometimes , especially with tournamts .
I used to drink while playing but I stopped and now it just helps me keep my thoughts sharp and I can concentrate longer in those long tournaments. I don’t feel as tired anymore.
My personal preference is listening to music. Really loud. But music needs to be something rather simple.
Drinking I like to limit to minimum in order to keep focus. And my extra thing is playing with chips. It is fun to work on chip tricks during online games.
Just crossed my mind that here is research that suggest that a slight amount of alcohol improves concentration ability. I don't doubt it. A drink or two doesn't hurt the game and it calms nerves just enough. But no more than that!
Several years ago, I used to drink alcohol and play poker many times. Please don’t do this. When you’re intoxicated, you tend to overplay, bluff unnecessarily, take reckless all-in risks, and keep rebuying. It’s better to avoid drinking while playing poker. I prefer listening to music and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated during my sessions.
