Honestly when i see someone shuffling chips just to impress i always get to conclusion that he´s not that good player like people thinks, and sometimes shuffling is the only talent they have. Like someone said once: The loudest one in the room is the weakest one in the room

I shuffle all the time, even when I'm just hanging in my room. My friends call it a nervous twitch lol. After thinking about it, I might be easily giving out tells at the live 1-2 table

It's addicting to the point that once you learn, you will do it without realizing it. I do it constantly playing blackjack also.

Nearest casino is several hundred miles away and the are no home games that use chips so I guess I wont be leaning anytime soon.Dont think it would bother me to much and prolly would look to see if it were a tell of some kind when others do.

Shuffling chips is pretty easy to learn...just need to practice...I got my first poker set (as a gift) in middle school and one summer I just sat in front of my computer and watched shows while shuffling chips. And that was before I even knew how to play poker.

Knowing how to shuffle chips does not equate to your poker skills.

- So true. I can shuffle up to 22 chips. I also do the finger flip thumb flip quite easily. :) I don't do this to intimidate opponents because it just comes out of habit. But I almost/always got a lot of stares (mostly from men) from it, mainly because I'm a woman. Maybe I do intimidate them, who knows.. :)

this is something i have thought about ALOT and to me i think players are better of not shuffling, it can be a sign they are anxious or excited or even worse scared.

I think you don't have to be intimidated by ppl who are shuffling their chips. Only thing which it proves is that they have dexterous hands but nohow that they necessarily have to be good players.

- IMHO, chips shuffling or chips flourishing can work to our advantage. There are more pros than cons while doing it. To name a few: release some tension/stress; staying awake; focus; hiding some tells and so on...

And it looks very cool doing it out there at the table. People love fancy stuff, just like in any sports like basketball - a killer crossover or a hang time move looks awesome. But concentrating too much on chips flourishing rather than concentrating on your game will definitely do you more harm than good!

If you want some more reasons why it is advantageous on your part to learn this thing, just send me a PM so i can give you the link about this subject. (I don't know if i can just post the link here).:)

This doesn't mean that they are the weakest in the room, LOL.
You must not be able to do it. Its something to keep you occupied. So is it better in your mind to just sit there and say and do nothing?

I love shuffling chips, it helps me to keep a running tally on my chip stack. If I want to intimidate players though I tend do a continuous chip roll with a black chip... (when playing 1/2nl)

It doesn't matter to me if someone can shuffle chips or not. It's really something you can learn in less than a few hours if you really sit down and try to learn it. I've seen a lot of good and bad players who can do a lot of crazy things with their chips.

It would be really nice to know how to shuffle chips, not to intimidate others, I just find it cool. I will try to pratice. If I see somebody who shuffles chips I would know he plays a lot live poker, so he would have much more experience than me on live games. I would worry of not giving tells to him, nor speak much to him

I am useless at shuffling chips and it always impresses me when someone who is good at it shows off their skills. However it does not intimidate me. Shuffling chips is a skill completely unrelated to playing the game.

Really do not understand how people think its a sign of weakness to shuffle chips lmao. If you go to an actual high quality tournament you notice everyone usually does. If you watch tv poker all of the pros too; and i don't think dwan, ivey negreanu etc are weak players haha. On one episode of PAD dwan ivey juanda seed did a 1k bet, the person who shuffled chips first gave the other guys 1k, ivey lost. All the players admitted how hard it was to not shuffle chips, with the first person being ivey; it just says it all really.
