Lol 8 hours a day is a full time job!

It depends on where you are and where you want to go on your poker journey. I believe if you wanf to improve then you don't step away.

You change your playing time to more study time or you switch games because many poker variants still share similar ideas/strategies/skills you can use in either game your playing.

Or you find ways to stay involved by posting hands on forums making you think about games with less time spent studying or playing but youre still involved some how.

Everyone has their own approach to planning the schedule of play and rest. I think a pretty good option is 2 days of playing and one day of rest. Although, to be honest, I'm ready to play even 7 days a week because for me poker is the entertainment that is always relevant.

Whenever you're losing it, it's tilting frequently.

When you can no longer think well and you lost a lot consecutively, it's best to review your mistakes

O When you start to get stressed out frequently because you're not doing well in the game, I think you need to take a break to think, relax, too much gaming leaves us stressed and our heads spinning.

If you're tired, it's definitely better to do something else.

The best is to have a logical schedule, and have breaks in it! Having the right measure.

After 4-5 days straight or 8+ hour sessions, my brain starts folding preflop. Gotta rest to play your best. Even heaters need cooldowns 😅.

Breaks depend on each person. If you feel exhausted, take a break; if not, keep playing. I consider myself not playing for that long, so I don't get so exhausted that I want to take a long break.

I only take a break when I don't feel well. But usually I don't play more than 5 hours a day. Although on weekends I sometimes play for 6-9 hours and it's really exhausting. I think if I were to take one day off, it would most likely be Monday, after a hard weekend session.

Absolutely, taking breaks is essential in poker — it helps reset your mind and avoid going into autopilot mode. When the game starts feeling like a routine, the joy fades and decision-making suffers. Playing like a bot never ends well, no matter how good the run is. For me, stepping away for even a day or two brings back clarity and that competitive edge.

Hey players 😉.

Just two quick question on when to take a break in poker…

How many days in a row before a break?
How many hours before an extended break?

Recently, I’ve played 5 days in a row for an average of 8 hours a day. I’ll admit, I’m exhausted. This is when I usually take a couple of days to recharge, focus, and start again. However, it’s difficult doing this when you’re on an upswing.

Anyway, just thought it would be interesting to hear how different people are and what their playing times looked like.

Cheers.
Keep Studying. Keep Grinding. Have Fun.
For me, the number of days I go before taking a break depends more on how I feel than a fixed number. If I'm playing sharp, focused, and emotionally balanced, I might go 4–6 days straight. But once I notice even slight signs of tilt, burnout, or declining focus, I’ll usually step back, even if the results are good.

Rest is important, but it's also important to make time to study. I try to play as much as I can, since I work and don’t have much time to grind.
These past few years, I feel like I’ve invested all my time in working and playing because I really want to get somewhere with this — but I still have a lot to learn.

It’s less about a fixed number of days or hours and more about how clear my thinking is and how emotionally steady I feel. If I start noticing that I’m not as sharp, zoning out, or getting frustrated more easily, that’s usually a sign it’s time to rest

Typically, I try not to go more than four or five days in a row without a full rest day. And if I’ve played a long session, like 6 to 8 hours, I’ll either take the next day off or just review hands and study without actually playing

Taking a break is important to maintain concentration and avoid fatigue. I recommend that you take a break whenever you feel your attention waning

I only play recreationally, so breaks don't really affect my life in any way.
I just generally stop playing a few days when I find that a specific spot or bad beat bother me for more than a day.
So then I wait until I feel fresh and fine with the ups and downs of poker to continue playing again.
