I think it’s really hard to compare players from different eras, as the game has developed so much.

Definitely agree with this, Stu Unger or Johnny Chan were amazing, but I couldn't see either of them running sims all day like modern pros. IMO Bryn Kenney is up there, as well as Sam Greenwood -overall I'd agree with DNegs being one of the best as he has significant success both live and online in multiple formats.

As for me, Daniel Nigrianu, although he is not the best, but I learned to play on him, I watched his championships on YouTube videos and he was excellent in his business! Respect to him!

Similar question as who is greatest of all time tennis player (male or female). Because of the different eras of poker, it is impossible to be objective. Stats based on earnings would suggest Phil Ivey, major tournaments won, Hellmuth, most well-known, well-liked, arguably Negreanu. The person who revolutionized the game was Doyle Brunson - arguably the first to publish comprehensively about his professional approaches and methods.

With all the recent heads up grudge matches and posturing among top pros recently I’ve been thinking about that a lot. And I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s pretty impossible to come to an exact answer. IMO you’d have to have numerous goats in different categories. Maybe a goat of promoting the game then a goat of longevity then a goat of high rollers and so on.
