no poker is not a sport, I hope in the future they will fix it and make it a sport for people to play sports and say I'm an athlete they asked him what you do poker:) luck just matters in poker, that's why it's not a sport but everything may change in the future

No, not for me.

It's the lack of any physical element.

The classification of poker as a sport can vary While it involves skill strategy and competition some argue that it lacks the physical activity associated with traditional sports The definition often depends on individual perspectives and criteria for considering an activity a sport

Would you consider fatigue, endurance and discipline phgsical elemenst? These are the same factors that are major in sports.

If it onvokves any type of fatigue and endurance I would definitely consider it a sport. Thats like some people say Nascar isn't a sport because your just driving. Skill, strategy, endurance, fatigue are all in major sports and if that player lacks any of it they are defiantly having a bad or will have a bad game

Depends on how you see the game.

I see sports as physical interaction. so imo poker and chess are not sports.
However, if it will be classified as sports, i have nothing against, i am ok with it

I guess they are in a way, although I wouldn't really equate the endurance of a poker player sitting down for 8 hours with the endurance of a marathon runner for example. The poker player does need to keep their concentration for that amount of time, which can be difficult though.

When I was talking of the physical element there's the obvious, like how some sports put a great strain on the body needing much strength, aerobic or anaerobic fitness, speed etc. Participants pushing themselves to the physical limit.

Going a bit deeper, darts and snooker are reasonably popular in my country. People have sometimes dismissed the idea of those as sports. They don't require some of the things I mentioned. What they have above poker is that in darts your body is still aiming and throwing that dart, in snooker your body is holding and using the snooker cue and aiming that. Both take hand-eye co-ordination even though they are not particularly physical sports when it comes expending great amounts of energy. Neither need strength or stamina in a meaningful way.

People have talked about e-sports in recent years and whether they are sports or not, professional video gamers. Those need quick reaction times, and hand-eye co-ordination too at least. That's something they have over poker as well.

The only actual physical movements that are part of the game in poker are moving your chips over the line, mucking your cards or if playing online clicking your mouse. They don't require particular skill to do, co-ordination or dexterity and there is nothing involved in these actions that can make one player better than another. There's no points awarded for clicking faster in online play, or slamming your cards down as hard as you can when mucking at the casino. That's why it's below e-sports too for me, which I'm not sure should be sports anyway.

No poker is not a sport its a a game, Sport is any activity that primarily requires physical ability to perform. We call someone playing poker a player not an athlete.

Wrong.
Diabetes type 2 (most common) is exacerbated by a sedentary lifestyle which leads to obesity. Playing poker online or live tends to be very sedentary. NASCAR on the other hand has nothing to do with cancer as far as I know.. Again if you think poker is a sport you probably have diabetes...or are on your way to having it. Get some exercise, and participate in a real sport, POKER is not a sport. Being offended by things is not a sport either btw.

No I do not think so. For me, poker is another method of making money. How can one say in this situation that poker is a sport? Most who play poker do not play for sport.

I would consider poker a game. It’s too sedentary to be recognised as a sport. I would consider that you would need some degree of physical activity to be regarded as a sport. This is no denigration of poker per se.

Yeah like, for exemple, in my life I could use a lot of abilities that I learn playing poker in general life...if in physical sports we can do it as well, why do not in poker?

I'll type as much or little as I want to type. Sometimes I'll feel like explaining things in more detail, other times not. It's just over 300 words, hardly an essay anyway!

It's up to you if you want to read it or not, I was addressing someone who asked me a question. They responded and reacted to it so would assume they read it.

No idea why you think you have authority over how long my post should be, or why you'd think I'd listen to you.

Very interesting question... I guess it comes down to how you define a sport, versus how you define a game. I think usually, people tend to define sport relating to a physical performance, as opposed to a game where it is more about strategy and/or precision. For example, I would classify pool and darts as games more than sports. But this is surely debatable today as we now have stuff like e-sports.

Some here said that poker might be classified as a sport because it has elements of fatigue, endurance and discipline. This is very true, but the same goes for chess, backgammon or any boardgame really. And they are still called games
