If you are asking me I play poker because it's a fun hobby for me. However, if you ask my wife she'll say it's definitely an addiction.

Hi, I just play for hobby, and if I can make a few dollars is fine, but do not consider myself an addict.

I am happy that an addiction has never taken hold of me. This game is for fun but I hope to play it professionally at some point, most likely when I retire :).

Poker is a wonderful game and I am enjoying the challenge on the road to mastery. It would appear that I do better in live games than online environments.

I still play both though!

For me it's a hobby. If you have control over what you are spending and can stop whenever you want, it is not considered addiction but an expense for what you enjoy.

For fun

Hobby. Never spend more than a small allocated budget. I do the same with sports betting too.

I think I spend a little too much time playing poker when I'm at home, but I wouldn't say I'm addicted. I don't spend money, and I don't think about it when I'm at work or away from home at all..
gambling is an addiction, and it must be so hard to beat it with all the options online nowadays. Stay strong!

Of course for hobby! To play for addiction is to become a Professional player! A professional player to become, you need a fair field. While it is impossible. As soon as everything becomes honest, without cheats, programs and bots. The whole Poker world will turn upside down. And Game will become the other, and until there is deception, so and will dirt, and smiles on faces. So I only play for fun. Because I'll be cheated anyway. Therefore, there is nothing to try.

For me defo an addiction which takes a of of the enjoyment, even when winning. However after years and years I do not try and escalate the buyins after losses. I love the game itself though but still need a lot more self control.

Also tried to stop going for those massive wins. The big guarentees still have some pulling power but realise now they are also much harder to final table.

Strictly speaking the money factor does not make it an addiction, just look at addicted gamers and the like. But being able to switch off away away from the home certainly points to a self control addicts do it have. Good for you :)

Doing better live is a fairly common phenomena, I really should try it more. When you play online your playing against talent all over the world and often much, much larger fields, whereas playing live unless at a major tournament you are often just playing the locals some of whom may be quite experienced. You are often dealing with less distractions too.

This is most definitely more likely to make you a winning player conversely. When you play for pleasure you do not play when you are exhausted or chase your loses or play on tilt all of which quickly diminish your bankroll. It really is the way it should be played.

I lived something similar at the beginning of my poker career; but I corrected it with discipline (and after losing a lot of money).

This game has a lot of mental and emotional control, if you can't understand that, then the game will control you.

:hmmmm:

Yes! I have fun during the game!
Yes! I think, I logically reason, I follow the opponent’s game - I develop thinking and memory!
Yes! I am happy when I get a $ prize for it!
