I took an over 3 year break from poker, and when I started playing a bit few weeks ago again, I found Peter Clarke's "The Grinder's Manual" very helpful in refreshing my rusty game (and I forgot quite a lot about poker over those years).

As far as other books, I'm still a big fan of Will Tipton's "Expert Heads Up No Limit Holdem". Very insightful, especially if you give it a proper amount of attention and think a lot about described concepts.

Also, I heard that Matthew Janda's new book - "No-Limit Hold 'em For Advanced Players" is quite good - I have not read it yet, but they say it's much more clear and complete than his first book.

Couldn't disagree more. Long list of good books out there. Many of these books have helped opened my mind to concepts in poker I had no clue on . Then the hard part! Taking action and making actual changes in your game. :icon_porc

I only scanned and didn't read each and every post, so forgive me if someone already suggested this one.

Every Hand Revealed - Gus Hansen

It is a bit different from most of the poker books out there; most of the books are more like text books, and while they still offer huge benefits to those who take the time to read them, some people might get bored or tired of reading such dry writing. I think this book is a good one to pick up when you want to keep studying but don't feel like reading any more text book type material.

Hansen's book is also a story, with a narrative of his account of winning the Aussie Millions main event in 2007. He recorded each and every hand that he played in with a small tape recorder, stepping away from the table for a short moment after each hand to summarize the action into the device.

I like this book because it not only offers plenty of good advice on pretty much all aspects of tournament play, but it also offers a good story to read. You can get an idea of what it is like to play in one of those big high stakes tournaments and actually win.

Hansen breaks down each hand he gets involved in, giving insight and analysis to his successes and mistakes. He does not pull any punches on himself when calling out his own mistakes and weaknesses, which is something all players should learn how to do when reviewing their own play.

The book i will add on the list is Power Hold'em Strategy by Daniel Negreanu. In this book Negreanu presents professional secrets and winning strategies in hold'em.When learn why not learn from the best right?

Liked Janda and Owens books.
One is good math for advncd, the first is great for beginners.
Also had a glance on Crusing micros by Nathan, seems very simple but I guess it's great for abuse of micro cash players.
If I may I would also usggest moormans book for MTT, it's also good.
The only sad thing about books is that they often become obsolete very quickly in developing games, I would asume that STUD/RAZZ books are still god, since there is either no or very little games, but some books are just bad if you you read straight up NLHE MTT or cash, maybe of for basics bu8t could be dangerous for players who want to move up.

That's a very good list of poker strategy books.

I've only read Harrington on Online Games, which is mostly directed towards 6-max online cash games. It provided me a solid understanding of the fundamentals of poker. It's well-written, well-constructed and informative.

Another good book I've read, is David Sklansky's Theory Of Poker. The chapter about the "Gap Concept" is one of the most crucial to get familiar with!

Sometime in the future I will try to read Blackrain's Crushing The Micros!

Neither are strategy books but both are great stories well told and Coren does delve into strategy and the way great players think.

This one isn't always accurate and maybe 35% of it is outdated and irrelevant to todays game but if you read "Caro's book of Poker Tell's" through the lens of brainstorming tells and putting tells on player types like you'd put certain play styles and actions on certain poker styles (nit, lag, tag, etc). It really is a wonderful reasource.

It has made me more polished in my physical prescense/actions at a table and has made me quicker to notice other players sub concious ticks they make.

One that is gold live: When a player looks pissed at a card that fell on the river and then bets at it...they're crazy strong.

Thank you for this list of books, sometimes you think it does not serve anything read poker books, but when you read one, you realize that helps you a lot in your game, it's good reading tips, strategies more experienced players.

In my opinion:

I would not remove any books from the list because of course they are all important and contain enough material to enrich our knowledge and to actually improve our game. I inserted a book in this list, "learning to play poker" is a book written by Brazilian that gave me a bigger explanation about the sport.

After rereading this thread I think, there are a lot of interesting suggestions in it, like categorizing more deeply this article. Maybe it would be worth to add also more tags to the books, like for beginners, good for preflop game, post flop and so on.
In my opinion it should be editable by the users somehow to make comments or tags to the books.

But there is one thing, that I pretty often read in this thread. That the people state, that they do not read books and think, that poker books have no value for them.
Honestly, I can't understand this, as I am reading pretty often books. Well, of course not only poker books. But for me books are just another mean for learning.

I love to read books before I sleep in bed. I can calm down with them and afterwards I sleep. But for me the books also have the advantage, that I do not need to rewind them somehow like a video or an audio book. I can read and learn in my own tempo. I don't want to say, that video training material is bad or audio books are bad, not at all. I use them too and it is just another way of learning in my opinion.

Join a poker training site. The information there will be fresh, and not only will you be reading information, you will be learning from videos made by people who play today's style.

There are some EXCELLENT books suggested in this thread, including a handful of new ones that are top notch! BUT there's also a number of books suggested in this thread that are TERRIBLE and would be a complete waste of time for the reader. I like reading almost ANY poker book & have a library of well over 50books (having read some of them 5x ) but some of the ones on this thread (that I've read... & some that I still own) are garbage & I can't imagine what the reader got out of the book to consider suggesting it here.

I'm mentioning this because I wouldn't want to be the person who picks up a book from here & discovers it is useless.
