Bluffing doesn't work for me, what is the trick?

You need to know your table and who you can bluff and when. If you are going up against a strong player who has been keeping an Eye on you, it will be easy for him to spot when you bluff. On the other hand, dont bluff too much unless you are confident you have the guy.

Start with very rare bluffing. Use common bluffs. Some examples are. the flop has a pair. Then sometimes you bluff. not always but then they think you have two pair or three of a kind.
Another common bluff is on the river. people have been checking. the k or A comes on the river. you pretend you have it. Dont bluff every time!
Also consider bluffing when you are on a flush draw or straight draw like you have 25 and 34q comes down. Then you have turn and river to get A or 6. These are bluffs that have a small chance of giving you the best hand.

To bluff, you have to tell your opponents that you have a good hand, it's very hard to bluff only the river. If you just check/call, probably you dont win with bluff. I try to bluff at later position and when my opponents show something that I think that their hands is weak.


The most important thing that I think is, you have to tell a story to bluff. If you didnt do anything that made them thought that you have a good hand, probably they will pay most of times.

How do you know they bluffed you do they show you their hands?

You have to know your oponets first, you wont be able to bluf any calling station, also, semi-blufs can be a lot lucrative.
How are you bluffing today? River bluffs are the most hard one to pass, you have to analize the board too, think of what are you pretending to have and tell the players this story, you have to convince them that your hand is the stronger, even if you put your hole stack in risk

There is a lot of attitude and luck required to bluffing. I am still learning and getting better
at it after years. There are some good ideas on this thread as well as keep on practicing bluffs cause you can always learn from the mistakes!

What on earth are the magic to bluff? I am close to crying because of the frustration, so I therefore took a brake and figured I could ask someone instead of loosing in tilt mode.

Unless a player shows you a bluff then you will never know whether you have been bluffed or not.
The fact that you are feeling as if your bluffs are failing and other players are bluffing you is a sign of weakness and that attracts the bluffs, try changing those sub conscious thoughts and start showing strength.
Try folding everything except from premium hands for 3 rounds then 3x bet any 2 cards UTG on the 4th to test the rest of the tables perception and continue the testing throughout your game. If UTG does not answer try same on button and so forth till you get your answers, they are always there.

I have seen fear in players from all positions on the table, just mark your opponents weaknesses and play accordingly.

Oh and dont forget to build your stack up before performing test hands

Bluffing at the lowest limits is largely a waste of time. You need to know the table you need to know your game & you need to be bluffing for a purpose. Even if you know what you are doing you are likely to be trying to bluff people who have no idea what you & they are doing. Explaining algebra to people who haven't bothered to learn basic math is just a waste of time..

You should choose the player who you want to bluff. If you see him pay with garbage, don't bluff him. Bluff the tight players who show weakness, e.g. they check. Work your game to identify bluffing spots!

You cannot bluff just because you want chips - everybody wants em. Those kinds of bluffs truly do not work.

the key for a good bluff is actually be sure (or have a very good idea) about what is your opponent thinking.
If you are simply trying to bluff by doing a huge bet, or doing it without considering the ranges of your opponent and the floop for instance, then it wont work in the long run ....

be sure that you know why you are bluffing and why would your opponent fold on that bet

Don't bluff against morons. Bluffs only work against players who pay attention to what you're repping.

Only bluff if your story makes sense. Be mindful of the action on every street. Will villain believe you have what your betting suggests you have? If you REALLY had the hand you are repping, do your actions on prior streets make sense?

Bet sizing should also make sense.
