Alright, CC members, listen up. We've all played a freeroll where a guy went all-in with 2♠7♦ preflop… and won. That’s freeroll poker for you—absolute madness. But guess what? You can actually win these things if you don’t play like a total fish.
Here’s the basic freeroll survival guide for beginners:
Here’s the basic freeroll survival guide for beginners:
1. Early Stage: don’t be a calling station
- Play tight(ish). You don’t have to play J3o just because it’s free. Fold junk.
- Raise good hands. If you have AQ, 99+, KQ, raise! Don’t just limp and hope for the best.
- Avoid big bluffs. Most players will call you down with any pair because "lol it’s a freeroll."
2. Middle Stage: attack the weak players
- Look for short stacks (players with very few chips). They’ll go all-in with garbage—let them.
- Steal blinds when it’s folded to you. If you’re in late position (Button, CO), with 20-60bbs raise with decent hands like A5o, K5s, 22+.
3. Late Stage: don’t get greedy
- When it’s down to the final tables, survival matters. Don’t risk your stack with marginal hands unless you’re super short.
- Pay attention to stack sizes. If someone has 5 big blinds left, they’re shoving almost anything. Call with strong hands (AJ+, 88+).
Final Tip: Freerolls are practice, not just free money
- Yeah, the prize might be small, but if you treat it seriously, you’ll get better—and maybe even build a real bankroll.
