I would say the math is more important. With math and patience you can do pretty well. You also need a little situational reading. Reading the situation is much easier and more common than reading a person. Understanding how people act or react in certain situations is the key to being a really good poker player. This is why bluffing or faking these actions to throw off people who know these signals are also important.
