Speaking on myself preflop was easier to learn at a sufficient level to compete. Post flop is taking more time but am loving the intricacies of it all. Better hand reading skills makes post flop decisions easier

Until that time I consider both necessary.First, we must have a pre-flop adjusted in relation to the OPEN RAISE for each position and also for the effective stack range.

Thus, knowing up to when you possess a hand of value to draw on the post flop.

If I had to pick one - postflop play is most important. However, preflop play sets-up postflop play.

So, preflop range and betsizing determines how the rest of the hand plays out as the board comes out.

Good luck !

+1

Also, for Tournament play & for a newer player you need to work on a solid preflop game.... postflop takes time.

I think the flop is much more important, because depending on the cards that come, you will make the decision to raise, run away, or even pay. Anyway, good luck in your games!

Postflop is definitely the harder of the two so the best players specialize on that. There are so many factors that go into postflop play that it makes it that much harder than preflop so mastering postflop is essential. For aggressive players preflop is more important and for more controlled players postflop is more important.

being able 2 win preflop and post flop in the beginning of a tournament is important, and later in the tournament is more important to be able to hold on riv is something that needs to be done if we are knocking anyone out!

Preflop is more just looking and the numbers.
Postflop is much harder because there are more factors playing, so I think postflop is more important.

It looks like that at first but if you go deep and truly understand what ranges opponents are playing you can develop preflop strategy to set them up. Once outplaying them preflop it will be hard to fight postflop

Preflop you settle ranges and post-flop you narrow them

The most money is played on the post flop. Most money is won preflop. Determine what is more important. ;)

Don't want to be rude but your answer is ireelevant :thumpdown. Preflop you can't really lose money unless you x-bet > fold.
On the long run if you manage to break-even post-flop you will have profit from the stolen blinds and succesful squeeze bets or x-bets. So I guess this might be your case.

In order to become a good poker player you must master the post flop play.
Stealing blinds and shove preflop it is pure Gamble (unless you have aces).

How can you evaluate the equity of your hand preflop?
You can be ahead preflop, behind after turn, and get nuts on river.
Poker is about putting the pieces together, evaluate your hand and your oponent.

I do most of my thinking preflop and as I get to the 5th street I have already decided what I will do and think less.

Pre-flop is a lot easier to study for, you can find a lot of good charts to follow and build your knowledge base with. But post-flop is where the variables create the spots that require experience and preparation.

All players will have to execute excellent strategies, both pre-flop and post-flop to be successful throughout the game. It’s important to note that pre-flop play has a monumental effect in how it effects post-flop play, which means that one strategy or tactic should complement the other in a single hand.

Preflop decisions are the foundation of your post flop play. Calling preflop raises with easily dominated hands like KJ is asking for post flop problems.

You can identify players afraid to play post flop as they often have one move which is all in preflop.

You should be working on both.

How you play preflop should usually be determined by how you plan to play post flop.

It's obvious watching players at a table to determine who the good players are and who the weak ones are based on how they play the later sttreets. Learn to play each street. Can't be over emphasized. The final streets are the most profitable/damaging to make the right/wrong moves.

Preflop

Always raise preflop, minimum atleast. But yes after the flop is where the action begins. If you get to stay at a table long enough u will get to see how strong peepz are betting. Then u will hopefully get to see if you can get aggressive or patient. Best on the felts!!

This totally depends on effective stack depths, at 10bbs its better to be better at preflop, but at 300bbs stacks then postflop is more important to be good at.

I would have to say post flop. Harder to out play someone pre flop in my opinion.

The answer to this like many poker questions is it depends.

Post-flop is much more important in cash games while in tournies pre-flop is king.

My strengths are pre-flop so I focus mainly on tournament poker.

I'm not saying there is no post-flop skill required for tournies, just that pre-flop decisions are more crucial in mtts.

Well only Aces and sometimes maybe...maybe king are pre-flop hands ideally. Though post flop is where the money is made as it is where you will get opponets putting in all their money drawing 0%.

I wouldn't say that either is particularly more important, but I think that developing solid preflop play is much easier and would have more direct payout to a less experienced player. Most of the big plays do happen postflop, but a lot of losing plays that are made postflop can be directly traced back to poor preflop decisions. High-level mastery of the game certainly takes place postflop, but it relies on having a fundamentally sound preflop strategy.

I think the most chips can be played pre flop .For example AA vs KK etc ....But if you limp you may gain from a nice flop.It is very diffucult to count a value raise ....sometimes players moves all in and they take only the blinds when they hand a chance to value more.
