Yeah that’s a tough question because it would be for a complete beginner. Maybe a tournament because you do one buy in and if you get lucky you can win a big payout. But with a cash game you can just play super tight and hope to make money that way.

Cash games are easier to build bankroll because there are fewer strategies to know. Cash plays 100bb deep 6 players or 8 players you can focus on that. MTT to win you have to play 30bb well 20bb well 10bb well -cash bubble well 3 table left well -2 tables left well- Ft well -6 handed well- 3 handed well- HU well

In low buy-in cash games you can play like a nit and weak players will give you profit--you cannot nit it up in MTT because of the above--sure nit at start but not the whole MTT

Time is the key--as a knew player you can play cash for 2 hours and then take a 1 hour break--which is a great idea for new players. MTT 6hrs long 8 hrs long sometimes 11 hrs long no long break---which means a lot more errors by a new player--

Freerolls are best if you're a complete beginner, otherwise I would recommend single-table SNGs, maybe it's easier to get used to.

For beginners, I think tournaments are usually the easier way to build a bankroll, especially freerolls or low buy-ins. You can risk very little and still have a chance to win a decent prize. It also helps you practice patience and discipline without losing much money.
Cash games can be more consistent in the long run, but they require solid post-flop skills and good bankroll management — things that beginners are still developing. So for starting out, I’d say stick to freerolls and small tournaments, learn the fundamentals, and move to cash games once you feel more confident.

Cash games on big sites are for pros, and its very hard to beat, but good to try playing cash on obscure poker rooms which focus more on casino , and you might find bad players there. I started playing on a Croatian poker room where there are just 10-15 players online.... and a daily freeroll with 100 players
Everyone is bad :D and I won't mention the name because I don't want traffic there .

Playing tournaments is the best way to go because you apply the same rules for every buy-in from 5$ to 10000$ (because on buy-ins less than 5 you can still encounter bingo players)

The rules to follow are simple:
Play tight early , just top 20% hands and from position. Choose your spots ! Fold preflop small pairs and marginal hands like KJ off and 9Qoff when there is a 4bet or to many players in the pot

In middle game start playing top 25-30% hands because you must steal some blinds.

On the bubble play tight again, and if you are running deep , put pressure on small stacks

In the money try to have an average stack, and always shove good hands when under 15BBs

Side rules
- always play strong hands against loose players (you can't bluff a calling station)
- Steal blinds from tight players with 2x BB bets ( and fold if they 3-bet , because they are strong)

For beginners, cash games are usually easier to build a bankroll. You can control the stakes, play shorter sessions, and learn faster without big variance like in tournaments.

I think tournaments are hard for beginners and needs a lot of attention to different types of players for few hours and you need to finish top 3% -5% in order to cash out.

I have never won any real moneys from MTTs except bounty tourmaments and have to rely on cash games to replenish the losses from my MTTs.

The stake I play is 0.01/0.02 for cash and up to $2 for tourmaments,

I think (for beginners!!!) tournament are better, especialy freerols. You can learn without risking too much - you now the buy in from the start and thats all you can lose. In cash games you can get unlucky and lose way more.
