I wonder why +1k winners play for several hours in freerolls just to get max 20$. I often see people who have won even more than 5k and they still in. What is your guess here?

I think they are playing for practice and experience mostly. After all you need to have 20$ to enter a tournament where you can win 5K.

First of all it is usually multitabling. So, if I play 20 tourneys in a session, 5-6 tables at the same time, and 1 of them is a freeroll it doesn't hurt. And freerolls have one big advantage over the rest of them - I loose nothing, I can only win.

Beside that where do you see they are winning? I bet you can see some kind of report showing the sum of the rewards but it usually does now show the entrance fees. So, when someone won 1K or even 5K does not mean they are a winnning player.

It's shown at some poker rooms when you click the nickname. And I think these are results after dividing the entrance fees (but I might be wrong).
Mario7, I've tried to quote you, but I don't know how to do it... Clicking "+Quote" doesn't work...

I'm not sure how accurate those numbers are. I have my doubts.

not true at all. there are Mtts at GG where you can win 5K with less than 20$
Especially now during the micromillions series.

Exactly... I've been among the top 100 last saturday in the 100K Weekly with a Russian with over 580K in tournament winnings

First of all, there are different types of freerolls. Why 20 bucks? There are some really interesting ones, even for successful poker players.

Secondly, there are many factors:
-maybe a successful player sponsors a freeroll and participates to show his involvement;
-:maybe he's just resting;
- maybe he's part of some kind of contract;

yes, there are a lot of reasons.

Even if you see +1k in winnings, that does not mean their current wallet balance is close to that figure!
At times poor bankroll management skills force you to restart again from Zero!
Player Statistics and his/her Current Situation are often very contrasting!

Freerolls are a great place to try different playing styles. Especially if there is a prize pool.

Everyone wants free money, and there are some really good freerolls out there. One of the cardschat games, even on Party, always has 36 players and pays $4.75 to the ITM

Because they have a bad mental game and already cashed out their winnings for whatever reason.

Did they have profits of $5k or cashes of $5k? GG Poker show, how much players have cashed but not their net results. So if you are talking about cashes of $5k rather than profits of $5k, then maybe they are not winning players. And maybe they just dont want to spend any more money on poker right now, but they still like to play, and therefore they enter a freeroll.

If you checked peoples results on a site like sharkscope, and they are actually up $5k playing tournaments on the site, then maybe they withdrew their winnings and are starting all over again, as others have suggested. Or they just keep on playing freerolls, even though they could have a higher hourly winrate in regular MTTs.

People with money, want more money…(reference POTUS)…sometimes it’s a matter of just playing to enjoy the competition or possibly just filling time till dinner.
