Hey everyone!

Instead of our quasi-annual trip to Las Vegas this year, some buddies and I have decided to avoid the USA for a while and stick to Canada.

Can anyone recommend a nice place in Canada to spend a few days playing poker? I live in Ontario, and anywhere from Yukon to Nova Scotia would be on the table!

I live in Calgary and there are 6 casinos in the city and a total of nine in southern Alberta.
To find information on them look at “pokeratlas.com”.
Good luck from Alberta should you decide to visit - there are also many tourist attractions in the area.

Hey, thank you! Looks like there are good options there. Poker Atlas looks very helpful too.

Do you have a preferred location?

The Deerfoot Inn & Casino just held the wsop Circuit event there in January. I believe they also ran one in late April, early May before Vegas WSOP series. Those will be some of the best poker tournaments in Canada I'm thinking. I think the buyins range from $250 to $1,700, with a few at $400.

The Playground Casino in Montreal would be your other option.

I was really hoping to go to Vegas this summer for WSOP (been planning on going the past few years) but I'm positive I won't be going now.

Likely the only vote for Nova Scotia/New Brunswick. We have a Casino in Halifax and Moncton. If you make it a 1-2 week trip of it make sure to go see Peggy's Cove and do the Cabot Trail. Fwiw Cabot Trail is much better in the Fall(Oct) when the leaves are changing colors. Also fwiw Peggy's Cove is an afternoon trip. Cabot Trail is better as a 2 day trip.

Cheers!!!

The rest of Canada might be ideal of the online player, but Ontario is not.

I don't think that would be a place someone would want to travel to.
That's a non-existing club that was in 1 unit of a building that is largely vacant.
This is it >>>

In Toronto, Woodbine Race Track has poker in the casino there. It's OK, but does not have great atmosphere...same for Casino Rama in Orillia, 90 minutes north of Toronto...but at least it's live poker.

You're probably correct, mugging people in the open isn't as lucrative as when it's out of sight of the general population.

I like the Montreal option because it is closer...but I have never been to Alberta, so that would make it a trip with more to do than simply play poker.

So many options!

I've been to both Niagara casinos and wasn't really impressed with either one.

My local casino (Casino Rama) has really declined in poker action since the Toronto room opened. I haven't been to the Toronto room yet but I heard the rake there is high.

Great Blue Heron Casino is a fun little casino in Port Perry Ontario. It's small and not impressive but the action was good and the games were fun. Keep in mind though that the cash tables only run from Thursday-Sunday.

I went to Playground poker club in Montreal last year and it was a blast! They have great promotions, tons of actions and free food while you play! It's a very nice establishment and there were tons of tables running, even late at night. Definitely worth the trip! If you plan on staying overnight there's a really affordable hotel called "Host Hotel" it's also on the reserve and only a 10 minute drive from playground. It was much cheaper staying there than all the other hotels I looked at, it was pretty good quality too. It had a 24/7 convenience store and a Tim Hortons attached. There was also a restaurant that was only open during the day. Good luck if you decide to make the trip!

Yes the Playground casino is a very good place to play , and MT forgot to say that drinks are free when you are playing cash games and tournaments but i had to pay for my food in a tournament. I try and make it there 2 or 3 times a year, whenever they have big tournys. Don t worry about the language used at tables, english is usually the first being used.

GGPoker has already received a license to operate in Ontario. For example, it was initially assumed that online gambling would be available only to Canadians, but from any province or territory, and citizens and residents themselves would be prohibited from playing in rooms and casinos with an international pool. However, during the preparation process, the restrictions were revised, making them stricter: only residents and residents of Ontario can play in the province's pool, and access to international gambling companies from there will be closed.

I speak both French and English (which came in VERY handy in Vegas one time), so that's cool. Montreal is becoming a very worthy option!!
