PI prefer tournaments because with money, you can risk everything in one hand.

The best tournament players tend to be successful cash players where they started and honed in their skills. I started in tournament with being a free roll ho, and I'm not saying I'm a good tournament player because I'm not but I do better at them than cash

I hate tournaments, I like short cash sessions better

Cash Games as i just find them more consistent and would rather have 80% winning days than 15% or so waiting for that heater and deep run =)

A big problem with small stakes cash games in casinos is the ridiculous rake the house takes . Even though the players will generally be worse than those in tourneys, playing lots of pots tends to eat away at your stack . An attentive , disciplined person should be able to do well in both formats , although slightly different skills are needed .

I play cash games on weekdays. I have very little free time on weekdays, but sometimes I can find 20-30 minutes. That's not enough for tournaments, so I play cash games. Cash games are a way for me to keep myself in shape. I take tournaments more seriously, viewing each one as a potential chance to take the next step towards my goal.

I prefer playing tournaments; I'm a loser at cash games. And you're absolutely right when you say that tournament players are losers at cash games.

When I've started playing poker online I've been grinding cash games from the lowest stakes and IMO this is still the best way to learn the game, practice(hopefully you study to improve your game) and get comfortable with different spots, even though the level of the opponents can be pretty low at this stakes, you'll still find similar opponents/spots even at mid/high games... I made the transition to mtts for like 2 years(I still play some CGs sessions from time to time), mostly because on the sites and hours I usually play the traffic is a bit low and the games were a bit regs heavy... plus, I play live mtts too and it helps to have a bit of practice, especially because of the big difference of stack sizes(at cash games you play with 100 BBs+ , while at mtts you'll have this stack sizes only for a few levels early game... preflop charts are everywhere nowadays for stacks like 20BBs and lower, but you still need practice to see how opponents react to different plays and to create 'good habits' like for example stealing blinds from late positions when you have like 1 good blocker* usually an A or a K- very important to have this experience as especially live, one mistake late game and/or a few missed good spots to steal blinds can result in you not finishing ITM and just wasting a lot of time...)

I think it depends / varies from player to player!
I started with cash games initially but switched to tournaments after developing a specific liking for the format!
Huge prize money is the cherry on cake when it comes to tournaments!

In terms of personal preference based on the game's dynamics, I prefer cash games of different variants. It's not that I don't like tournaments, but their long duration doesn't fit very well for me right now.

I prefer tournaments.
I only played CG on many tables when there was a rake competition in the room.

This is a topic that can be talked about for a very long time, but in this conversation I want to hear what discipline you have chosen and why.

Both because it makes the most sense for a rec/hobby with limited time.

I play cash during the week on days when I only have 1-3 hours and feel like playing. I play longer blind level(10+ min) $5+ MTT's on weekends which is the best time to play MTT's.

Most weeks I typically make enough playing cash to afford my MTT buy-ins plus a bit of extra profit even if I don't cash in any of the MTT's. This way my bankroll is usually always going up even if only by a small amount each week. Eventually I'll nail an MTT for a final table or win for a big jump in my bankroll.

I will admit I enjoy MTT's a lot more then playing cash.

Cheers!!!

It's a great topic of conversation. Personally, I prefer tournaments. I think my skills are better in tournaments. I like long-duration tournaments, and I've had very good winnings in that type of tournament, which is why I like tournaments more.

It's true that you have to play a completely different strategy in a tournament than in a cash game. But I think you can learn both and be successful in both.

Personally, I’m a Cash Game player through and through. I just can't stand the "hurry up and wait" nature of tournaments. You grind for eight hours, play solid poker, and then bust out on a coin flip right before the final table

Personally, I only play tournaments. But I don't play for the money; I enjoy the process of playing in a tournament.
