Tilt is definitely something every poker player has to learn to manage, especially online. I don’t think stopping immediately is always the solution. If I get bad beat in one tournament but I’m still playing others, I can’t just quit everything.

For me, the key is understanding that poker will always be a mix of skill and luck. Bad players can win hands, and sometimes bad plays get rewarded which is usually the most frustrating part. Accepting that reality helps a lot.

Mental strength is crucial. Being aware of what just happened, taking a few seconds to breathe, and continuing to make correct decisions is more important than simply stopping. Knowing how to control emotions after a bad hand is what really separates good players from the rest.

It happens to all of us sooner or later; multi-tabling usually works for me.

I totally agree. Playing while tilted usually leads to bad decisions, it’s better to stop and come back later with a clear mind.

That’s why learning to recognize the first signs is essential (making calls you normally wouldn’t, increasing bet sizes irrationally, playing marginal hands out of position). This makes you a very predictable and exploitable player for attentive opponents. The most advisable strategies are: setting a daily or per-session loss limit, taking a break every X hands or every Y hours to mentally reset, practicing breathing and meditation, and reviewing the hands played to understand whether decisions were rational or emotional.

It depends…

Online… I agree you just have to walk away or play on another provider that day.. tilt in real life poker is an emotional thing.. TILT ONLINE is literally computer software designed to make you lose… when your online tilted vs real life it’s completely different… online tilt is being dealt KK while it deals someone else AA or you’ll get AA and the other player will get an unfoldable hand of KK and the K will always always come.. it honestly doesn’t matter what cards you get online.. the game will play out how it’s been programmed too… so if your on tilt online, it’s not random and it’s impossible to control, anyone who tells you different is full of sh.. it’s funny.. when tilt is on and you go play at another provider that tilt is some how completely gone and you have a fighting chance again.

Live, you need to take a walk or just know that the next hand is actually completely different.

To me online poker is a slot machine where you can grind out wins.. but if the provider really doesn’t want you to win (that tilt will make it very clear and when it does listen) that what all the providers literally say in the terms and conditions (if your tilted take a break.. I take a break playing on another platform).

Anyone who tells you online poker is anything other then software that promotes sucking peoples bank accounts are full of it. Can you win at online poker, yeah, it’s a grind and you’ll need to play at multiple sites to avoid the super tilt, is the software designed for you to lose in the long run (no matter your poker skill) also yes. If you’ve played online poker you know (folks say you see so many more hands) that would make sense if it wasn’t a computer operating the system… (those same folks will say they are “independently tested”) they are paid by the casinos.. if they don’t pass them they don’t get paid.. also you can test for TNG but they say nothing about actually programming what seats or players win.. both things can be true at the same time… you can use an RNG and program what player you want to win in the code…

If online poker was legit, rec players wouldn’t play or for very long.. we have 8 billion people on the planet, the sharper players would take up all the money in online poker and chase everyone away.. (causing their tournment and take fees to disappear and the casino provider to lose money) the poker providers don’t make money on good players they make money on the donkey who sits down goes all in 3 seconds in and buys into 15 tournaments in 5 mins trying to gain a stack.. that’s the player they like to win and cash… they know they will get there money back and more.. if you are a winner it’s tough, they definitely don’t want you winning all the time and chasing away their rec players they don’t want you cashing out and if you do win tournaments that’s exactly what you’ll be doing… that’s bad for the casino business.

Last point I’ll make is… these folks operate in third world countries… (people say for tax reason.. if that’s the case all USA sports books would do the same.. yet the us sports books have made billions more then poker in just a couple years). The truth is regulation and operating in a fair honest manor, you can’t do that when you have the DOJ watching everything your doing and can’t be paid off…

Those are my two cents.. over 4 different poker sites for the last few years in poker I make about 10k a year playing mostly in my free time.

Hope that helps

The good thing about losing 3 months in a row without getting a place is that I don't spend any money, so it doesn't hurt, even though it is wasted time.

I think that pre determining your sessions and saying what you would like to achieve from it before you set out is a mindful activity that holds me in good stead and allows me to stop when im up and stop when im down for a session. Saying how much time you would like to spend playing before you start is also a good tool to not get lost in a session chasing losses or suffering from tilt. Good luck at the table.

As long as you accept the reality of it and deal with it at that moment that feeling of being tilted should dissapate. To me it however it can be infuriating to play with someone that doesnt know what they are doing but that's all part of it.

One mistake I made a lot of was that when I lost a hand because I took a bad one, then I would get irritated and I would end up losing all the chips because I didn't breathe a bit and follow the tournament or cash... I see that it's very important to know how to stop when you're losing, especially online!
If you go all in with AK and the idiot next to you calls with 10-9 and you lose, it's a guaranteed tilt!

I think lots goes into it. I drink water. I don’t put all my chips all in too much. I see more tilt since I play tight. I had to google tilt as I’m new to online poker I called it running bad

I mean, yes, you're right. For most players this is the best way. Playing while being frustrated or disappointed is never a good idea in any case. Some people have enough strength to motivate themselfs over this hurdle, but the most don't.

It's important to take a break when you're tilted, even if it's for a short time. This allows you to clear your head and avoid bigger losses caused by impulsive actions.
