Do you have any evidence that online poker is unfair? So why do so many people continue to play it, even though they've been losing for years?
What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I don’t think there’s solid evidence that online poker is unfair on reputable sites. Most major platforms are regulated and use random number generators that are regularly audited. The problem is that people often underestimate how brutal variance can be, even good players can run bad for long stretches.

Many keep playing because they enjoy the challenge or believe they can improve with study. But long-term winners usually treat it like a skill game and put in serious work off the tables, not just volume
.

although evidence is not available, it is based on an inner feeling and experience that sometimes something is not right

What is your poker level? Is your level of play just a figment of your imagination, or are you really that good?

I don't even think its the variance that people don't understand that makes them think online poker is unfair.

I reckon its down to te fact that, if there's 100 players in one tournament, how many are happy after it? 3-5 maybe, so 95 will feel, why couldn't that flip just go my way. Then they play a 1000 player tournament, and 990 aren't happy, keep repeatng that and there are a huge nu,ber of players woth the potential to say rigged, rather than, what could I do better.

The reason many players play is just for fun, they get a kick out of bluffing, winning big pots, and 'outplaying' other players, as they see it. Then they lose and just have another go. There is also the hope that one day it will all go for them and they win big!!

Many people play football cos they enjoy it, but they will never be at the top 'winning'

Why do you keep playing??

Unfair in what manner? Like running into people using real time assistance? People having an advantage over others that they shouldn't? Teams of people playing together while talking on their phones? It all happens, and more, and is much more difficult to stop than in a live setting.

Why do so many people play online poker if it is unfair? Because they don't have access to decent games locally. Because they just want the convenience of clicking buttons to play a card game while sitting on their toilets. Because it is fun for them and making a profit isn't the main reason, but rather the thrill of making a big win once.

Well said, but it doesn't resolve the facts we haven't yet discovered.

Online poker is 100% "unfair".

Anyone that's using additional software usually has an advantage over something that doesn't. Not only do you have individuals tracking you but organizations/companies as well. And what is statname or Smarthand anyway? lol or sharkscope?

Most people aren't going to know you if you stepped into a live poker room. and thats how it should be online.

Even if you say well, everybody can buy "xyz" product and . . no. I don't want to keep up with the lastest and greatest poker aids, Id rather be enjoying the games.

Then you have all the scandals of online poker. Yeah, online poker is very "unfair" and its been for awhile.

Many of the sites now provide a universal HUD that is displayed for all players. Seems you're a few years behind the times. (surprise.. surprise...)

I used to think the same way you did, but now I'm sure that, with proper study, poker isn't unfair. What happens is that people want to win tournaments instead of making a profit. You need to invest volume and, after playing enough hands in enough cash games or tournaments, you can analyze your ROI to see how your actual performance is doing.

But yes, continuing to play without being profitable or without studying to become profitable is really difficult.

Poker is, to some extent, a psychological mind game.

The main advantage of online poker is its freedom of access. You can play for real money whenever you want: in the evening after work, during your lunch break, while relaxing, or even while at work.Online poker also has its drawbacks. For example, winnings cannot be withdrawn immediately. It takes time to process a money transfer.

The advantage of online poker is that we can now draw on a fairly long history of online poker, based on the experience of many players.

I think people sometimes forget that poker is, first and foremost, a game. Sure, it involves strategy, math, and skill, but at the end of the day it’s meant to be fun. Many players get caught up chasing results or blaming variance when things don’t go their way, but the real reason most of us started playing was the thrill, the challenge, and the enjoyment of the game itself.

Even if someone isn’t winning consistently, that doesn’t mean the experience isn’t valuable. As long as you’re playing responsibly and having fun, poker can still be an amazing hobby that keeps your mind sharp and gives you that rush of competition winning or losing.

I think the only downside is not being able to see the players' expressions in front of you, other than that there's nothing against it.
